214 Palmar Street by Karen McQuestion

Digital Reads Reviews is a blog-haven for book posts and tech tips. This is a review of a psychological thriller.
214 palmer street

Blurb

A house with a secret. A woman with nothing to lose.

When Maggie sees the beautiful Venetian blinds moving in the Caldwells’ front window, she freezes.

Her favorite neighbours Cady and Josh are away, so who is in their house?

The pretty young woman who answers the door tells a convincing story.

She’s Sarah. The house-sitter. Just here for a month.

An old friend of Cady’s who needed a place to stay.

She’s pleasant and warm, and Maggie wanders back to her house thinking she might have made a new friend.

Yet she can’t help but wonder why Cady never mentioned Sarah.

What Maggie doesn’t know is that on the other side of the door, Sarah is starting to panic.

No one was meant to see her at 214 Palmer Street…

My Review

What was it all about

A house sitter, Sarah, who was not supposed to be there in that house but desperately needed to get to the truth. This was not just a story about her but events set in the past about good friends and a couple.

How it made me feel

Incredulous was what I felt. Not due to the emerging suspense but a plot line that could be so bleh. A character who was supposedly innocent but was actually stupid.

Another book that bored the heck out of me and nearly ruined by weekend. I thought all suspense authors had run out of ideas. There was hardly anything new for them to create.

The Good

It was predictable, and I was right.

I could solve the mystery within the first few chapters and was so flabbergasted that the main character could not see the truth.

The Bad

The writing was slow-paced and didn’t evoke any curiosity in me, because everything was so obvious except for Sarah who was extremely suspicious.

With many POVs, the plot line became murky and uninteresting.

The characters were so unbelievably annoying that I hoped the ghost of the past would kill them all and end my misery.

I couldn’t believe my eyes that a book with a tag line of psychological thriller packed with suspense could have absolutely no suspense.

You ask why I read it then? Because I paid money for the book so wanted to finish it till the end.

The Conclusion

Predictable and boring that took me for a ride and not in a good way.

Very predictable
2/5

  1. oh, deah, Shalini, you had me laughing and reading parts of your review to the CE again. Sorry you had to pay for that–and what’s worse–your time. You’ll never get it back. (At my age, I can’t afford many of those.)
