This was a gritty read. From the title I knew what I was getting into. I haven’t read the previous books of the author so all the characters were new to me.

3 strong female characters formed the core of this story. FIONA a cop who had been abducted months earlier who suffered from PTSD. She was investigating Wheeler’s death. LORRAINE a wife who hated her husband Wheeler so much that she was willing to take a contract on him via the Irish mafia. She did receive a call telling her about the husband’s death and asking her to pay a huge amount to prevent the same fate. ANNEMARIE a reporter eager to get to the truth with links to both women.

My first book by Will Patching, showed me a different style of writing. It was hard core and raw. There was a strength of honesty in it. I was quite amazed at the author’s dexterity in writing complexed multi-layered women. Each had their own need to survive the difficulties of their circumstances.

The plot was twisted and kept me on my toes with Albanian Mafia playing a role in it (I knew nothing about them). There were some graphic scenes, but I thought that the story needed it to make the characters come alive. The author’s explanation at the end of the story gave me a hidden glimpse of how the plot developed.

Overall, this book is for readers who enjoy a hard hitting, gritty, no holds barred Police Thriller.
