My review
The story goes thus; Morgan comes home to Christmas Falls to open a salon and finds herself co-leasing the place with her childhood crush, Dallas and sparks literally fly…
A second book in the Christmas Falls series and written by Susan Hatler, this is far better than the first book. Susan Hatler has made her main character Morgan feel the helplessness of being stuck between family and love. She has made Morgan a strong character who is loyal to both her family and Dallas.
Morgan is a cosmetologist, and her parents are unaware of her choice of career. They expect her to work in their bank. And the mom hates Dallas and blames him for family tragedy. So Morgan is caught between living her own life and wanting to keep her parents happy.
At 164 pages, it is a short book, but Susan Hatler packs it with so much flavor. I liked seeing Morgan and Dallas fall in love, I liked seeing Morgan and her brother banter, and I liked seeing Morgan becoming independent.
What I didn’t like is this series is based on friendship between 7 friends who have all separated, written by 7 authors. But those friends are mentioned only in passing, and there is not a single chapter or page, based on that friendship. If there is a poem on friendship, the book ought to have that friendship as a base too. Sometimes I found Morgan behaving like a stupid teenager, like climbing on a slippery rock and falling off.
The story, the plot line, the secrets, the love, and the funny moments were really good and I find Susan Hatler to be a really good author who can spin a beautiful yarn even in 164 pages. That’s pure talent.
P.S. There is nothing much Christmassy about this book but it was a fun, quick read. It blows away the stresses and is a great way to end the day.
I received an ARC from NetGalley and publisher Hatco Publishing, and this is my honest and unbiased opinion.
