My review

I love a kickass heroine, I love one more if she has a killer sword.

And Raven is both, she is the last Valkyrie, shut off forever from the Valhalla.

This is my first book by the author Kareena Espinosa, and she did take me on a sweet ride down the pages. I love that Raven is not the sweet, perfect main character, but she drinks, pops pills, and finds her pleasure wherever she can.

The initial chapters have flashbacks of her past with her sisters and father, Odin. So that gives me a glimpse into the beginning of her life, yet a lot of the secrets are kept shut for book2.

Raven is ably supported by a banshee Charlie, a human cop Will, and a godly shapeshifter and son of Loki, Fen. The book reads fast, there are a lot of scenes where I wanted to high-five Raven. She is bold, brass, and absolutely hard-assed.

I like that the author has put chinks in her armor especially her love and friendship for Charlie and Will. I like their bonding, their trust. In fact their trust in her shines more.

But in making the main character seem human, there are few niggles which made me not fall completely in love with Raven. She whines and gives up too often.

I understand she is on a self destructive mode, but I did not exactly get why she is on that path. The last scene has Charlie and Will boosting her morales up by showing her the positive aspects of her life. Charlie has more great ideas than her.

Raven is a Valkyrie, but I love the banshee more!! I would love to see what the author does in Book 2. Overall an enjoyable, fun read

My rating : 4 stars

Book blurb

Raven Romero is a washed up Valkyrie who is unable to return to Valhalla, spending her days in a haze of sex, drugs, and alcohol.
When she is wrongfully accused of murder, Raven has two options: run or clear her name. With a laundry list of enemies, she has no idea who could be framing her. One thing is for sure: they know what she is and they’ll stop at nothing until she’s behind bars or dead.
With no choice but to delve into the supernatural underground she tried so hard to avoid, Raven seeks aid and learns what it means to be human.
The world believes her kind no longer exists, but Raven Romero is The Last Valkyrie.

      1. Haha, I’ll take the blame as long as you enjoyed it. 😁❤
I’m okay. Pain has definitely come down quite a bit, finally, so I’m getting around a lot better. ❤

    1. Yayy… What is it? Could you bring me back to approved folder. That is so cool.
I have not been commenting after the college tour post as none of my comments reached you…

      1. I only found two comments that didn’t make it. Oddly, the admin section doesn’t show up in my computer or iPad, only my phone, which I noticed yesterday. I’m still playing with it!

  1. I see there’s an Odin and Valhalla hall to a Valkyrie story.. I read a duology on Valkyrie by Amanda Hocking few months ago so I guess the mythology is the same. I’m glad you enjoyed this book.

  2. I love books, anime and movies that feature strong women characters. This really sounds like an amazing read 😊😊 Always love stories such as these, so totally adding this one to my to read list. And let me not forget: Fantastic review! 😊😊

    1. Books ANIME movies then strong women in that order… I am seeing a pattern… That’s why I got a – sweety I gotta go – today… Hmmm… How do I take revenge, I wonder

  3. Wonderful review Shalini. I am becoming a much bigger fan of fantasy than in previous years. You have made this sound very intriguing, a kick-ass heroine with flaws ,,,,, I may just pick this one up.

Awesome to see you here. Let's chat.
