MY REVIEW
A child missing from a day care center with no one realizing the truth for 10 hours got the cops rushing to solve the case. Author Beverly Long had a fabulous way of writing where there was space even when the tension kept increasing. I could grasp the emotion behind each word.
Having read so many police procedural, I had qualms about reading another one. But this was so different. There was heightened suspense in the story but not the gritty, raw feeling that would leave me battered. Nothing felt forced in the subplots, hence the reading of a difficult topic too sailed smoothly.
A. L. and his partner, Rena, were brilliant as cops. Having not remembered book 1, I had no problems sinking my teeth into this one. Their working chemistry was in sync; they knew what the other was thinking. And even in moments of different views, it was obvious there was a deep respect for each other. The author was quite brilliant in her craft of etching remarkable characters.
The story was on a slippery slope where I couldn’t even begin to guess how they would solve it. Minuscule breaks were received, but I honestly couldn’t play the Detective. I enjoyed it completely as a backseat rider watching them navigate the twists and turns this case led them on.
I would say this was a must-read book in this genre. And I enjoyed it completely. Well recommended.

I have to read more by this author. This was a different kind of a thriller. I preferred it more
Sounds great, Shalini. And I see it’s from Harlequin. I’ve requested from them a couple times and they deny my requests. Also, nice to see they are doing police procedurals. Didin’t they use to do romances? (only romances?)
They have 6 or 7 different themes, one if them is thriller rest are romance, historical, romantic suspense, etc. Don’t remember them all. But Mira subpublisher is the one with thrillers, I think
