MY REVIEW
My second book by author Ruth O’Neill where a happily married woman suddenly found herself in the cross-hairs of threatening notes and actions.
The first half was great, where Lena could feel a shadow following her and her husband ranking it up to paranoia as he had his own secrets. I liked how the suspense was built up. I thought I knew the perp when the author threw in a curveball about the husband. That was fun.
Then it all started going down…
I suddenly had many POVs popping up. All the characters who were written in had their own justification. Some of them quite weird.
The dialogues felt so contrived that I couldn’t believe that they believed what they were spouting. And each one’s actions changed instantly. In the end everyone became the good person who repented their action.
The bare skeleton of the story was good, but the problem started when the scenes started fleshing out. The writing lost its drive. Lena was good out of the lot, the others only justified their action to appear pious or repent. I was unsure what it was.
The story was formulaic in its concept. But it was still addictive in the first half then, for me, it went awry. You might just like the book.
Being fond of thrillers, hopefully all of you knew that, the book needed more pizzazz, strength in its darkness, believability in its characterization, not try to prove all would cry tears of repents. Sometimes baddies have to remain evil, not be made all good.
The author needed to pull at her inner darkness to write about the characters of this book. Here they were all caricatures and weird… Sighhh

Hello Shalini. This seems to happen a lot, a great beginning and then a fizzle out, especially in thrillers.
Too bad it fizzled out. They can’t all be grand champions I guess, but you pick well overall.
Well, if anyone would know a good thriller (or a less than good one), it would be you. Sorry it was not all it could be.
