MY REVIEW
The forest was a living, breathing thing literally that was taking over the village, and the Watchers kept the light burning so that the beings stayed away, as they were afraid of the fire. Adele, a young lass, in love, just starting her life soon found her life changing when she turned 16 and found the secret of her blood and her legacy.
This was an easy read loosely based Little Red Riding Hood retelling. I liked the swiftness Ms. Vincent brought out the truth of Adele’s life. She was sweet and easy to like. The tug-of-war in her when her duties and her dreams pulled her in two opposite directions was well shown. I could empathize with her. But I also hoped that she would find a way out fast and start the action.
The only thing, as a reader, I was not too fond of was the romance. I would have loved the book more had it been purely an action fantasy. But such books rarely were. The story ended in a cliffhanger. That was a bummer!! I thought this was a standalone; it was purported to be, but maybe the author decided midway to make it a series.
Overall, a fun read if you like werewolves and monsters in the forest.

BOOK BLURB
For as long as sixteen-year-old Adele can remember the village of Oakvale has been surrounding by the dark woods—a forest filled with terrible monsters that light cannot penetrate. Like every person who grows up in Oakvale she has been told to steer clear of the woods unless absolutely necessary.
But unlike her neighbors in Oakvale, Adele has a very good reason for going into the woods. Adele is one of a long line of guardians, women who are able to change into wolves and who are tasked with the job of protecting their village while never letting any of the villagers know of their existence.
But when following her calling means abandoning the person she loves, the future she imagined for herself, and her values she must decide how far she is willing to go to keep her neighbors safe.

I downloaded the digital version of the book from an online retail and this is my journey down its pages, straight from the heart. STRICTLY HONEST and UNBIASED.

No! cliffhangers are vile!
Nice review, Shalini, but no, I don’t do werewolves, vampires, or zombies.
Hm. Interesting, but I think I’ll stick with the original fairy tale–no romance.😉
