Is hope enough to keep me moving forward after she disappears into the night?

I met Devon one night.

And without a warning, she vanished into thin air before I could get her full name.

Now I can’t stop thinking about her.

The smiles we exchanged that night were genuine.

The attraction, off the charts.

Everywhere I look, I hope to see her.

Everywhere I go, I hope to meet her.

Only once.

To know if I dreamed the blazing chemistry we shared.

I’m the manager of some of the biggest country stars on the planet, and still, even after a year, Devon is all I care about. All I long.

When some family buried secrets surface and send me on a drinking spree, I have no idea the night is about to be my greatest challenge of all.

And that some of my prayers are about to be exhausted.

In the most painful way.

Is Devon just a fragment of my imagination, or will our reunion be the greatest test of strength I’ll have to go through in my entire life?

My Review

What was it all about

Hope and Country by author Emmanuelle Snow was a love story at its core, but not the kinds that was all steam and no substance. But a book that took a topic like physical abuse head-on to show courage and strength that we women have.

How it made me feel

The book made me pause, take a breath, then read on. Abuse was a tough subject, and I loved the fact the emotional aspect of it was treated sensitively in the book.

There were moments I had a lump in my throat at all that was happening with Devon. Then to counter that I had tears in my eyes when my heart was melting and lips quivered with happiness.

Emotions galore were packed in the book, each page had evoked something from me. One couldn’t read this author’s books without feeling something for her characters.

The Good

The writing. The strength of Ms. Snow’s talent of storytelling was choosing words that showed the connection between two souls. That formed a direct bridge to my heart.

Though it was difficult to read such about abuse, I liked that the story did not trigger me as the author filled the pages with vibes of hope. Never came a time when I went into my past. In fact, this book made me long for a future like Devon’s. To find my Riley.

The characters. They stole my heart. Devon by the courage of her heart and her determination to never let go of her essence. I liked how the author showed me her vulnerabilities. That made me realize that with the right guy, even those moments were our strengths.

And Riley. Oh Riley, by his sensitivity, caring, and the honest way that we helped Devon find herself. His patience with her stole my breath away. This author’s tag line was she created book boyfriends and molded them in accordance to our heart’s innermost wishes. And Riley simply checked all the boxes.

The Bad

Every book  by this author gave me a different guy, and I wanted each one of them. It was so difficult to be loyal and stick with one guy.

It started with Carter and the way he loved in Pink and Country

Then came Nick, but he was not explored fully as Princess and Country was more about Dahlia. I was given a breather.

Then Adam in Tuxedos and Stilettos. Gavin in Stars and Country. Anderson in Son and Country.

And in this Riley.

I just couldn’t fan-girl one single man. I had to have them all. And yes, I learned to juggle my crushes.

The Conclusion

Being a romance, the book had its slow burn romance. But it was so much more than that. It foretold a story that we needed to read with our hearts.

The book shone with the light of healing. The lines vibrated with the power of a woman’s need to survive and thrive. The words radiated the strength that came with having faced the darkness. Absolutely recommended.

I loved it
5/5
