The cutest book which had me feeling the most vulnerable when the scenes from the story clashed with the scenes from the past. School days are not something I visit so frequently, but Robbie Yates’ book had me imagining myself right in the middle of Maxine and the Kooky Kids. They were so rad!
Maxine was alone and different from the rest. She had a full but lonely life living her interests, her best friend being Aunt Izzie. Then came the invitation to join the Kooky Kids’ Club and the disappearance of a favorite teacher, and that changed her life. Read the story to know how, and I bet it will have you smiling in joy!!
The kids in the Club had a core of innocence and confidence in them. There was an air of acceptance which leapt off the pages to capture my heart in vivid colors, each more brighter than the other. And the entire credit for this goes to Robbie. The words had me living my life along with the Kooky Kids.
Maxine was a complete character who beguiled me with her emotions, I couldn’t help but follow her down the book like a little lamb. Her loneliness had my heart wrenched, her joy in being part of the club had me laughing, her intelligence had me feeling proud of her, and lastly her growing confidence had the stars shining in my eyes.
I loved the fact that Robbie has taken a page from the lonely moments of his school life and spun a yarn on his spinning wheel, one thread at a time, gently weaving them together into a tale which tells us an important fact – it is our differences which make us interesting and beautiful. Our quirks make us different and give us our unique place on this earth.
Robbie Yates is an amazing author and The Kooky Kids’ Club is a must-read for every child, every parent, everyone sees life in vibrant hues. An awesome read by an awesome author!! This would make an awesome Christmas gift!!
All my reviews can be found here
Robbie Yates is an author from Melbourne, Australia. He likes cocoa, cheeky poetry, and eating all of the red jellybeans before anybody else can get to them.
In his free time, Robbie likes to read ridiculous and wacky kids’ fiction. He also likes practical jokes and terrible puns.
Maxine is smart, quirky, and a bit of a misfit. One day, she receives a mysterious invitation to a meeting of the “Kooky Kids’ Club.”
Things are looking bright. It’s nice to finally have a real group of friends. Then Maxine’s teacher disappears.
Maxine doesn’t know what happened to her beloved teacher, or how she can help. But if anybody has the smarts to help Miss Thompson, it’s Maxine and the Kooky Kids’ Club…
