When I came to know that Bernadette a.k.a Bernie to her friends had come out with a new book, I was most excited. I hurried post haste and downloaded her book. Thank God for Kindle Unlimited.
Bernadette writes fabulous book reviews. Do check out her blog too an of course, READ HER BOOK!!
This was a cute read of 198 pages, which encapsulated the life of Eloise, now a single mother with 3 kids, with an ex Gary, his romance Sandra, and a host of new would-be romances workmate David, daughter’s science teacher Mr Russell, and a neighbor maybe..
The author B R Maycock has packed this book with a plethora of details. I loved the way Eloise managed her day, choosing to fight her battles slowly. She was developed with a loving hand by the author. I loved her moments of introspection where she saw life as it stood. Her magnanimity leapt off the pages when it came to the people in her life. Her best relationships, for me, were with her children. There were genuine love and respect between them even if their life was a bit harried.
The few things that niggled me were, with a title like Snowday and a beautiful cover which bespoke Christmas, I wanted more of the Christmassy cheer and that joy in between the lines which generally occurs in such a story. I didn’t like the main character Eloise sometimes, I found her too disorganized and a bit of a namby pamby when it came to flirting. It felt awkward, I wasn’t very connected to her, needed more emotions.
But the overall story is of hope and love and the book ended with so much of a good cheer that it had my heart flying high in warmth and happiness for the forthcoming holiday season…
Merry Christmas to all!! And well it is my birthday too around that time.. So Yayyy
A special shout out to the character Mr Strouton written by the author. He was politically incorrect, he was archaic in his views about a women’s position in life and work, and Eloise had to correct him so many times.. But he was still a fun character who exasperated me, yet added depths and vagaries to this straightforward light read.
I downloaded a digital copy from Kindle Unlimited, and this is my journey into its pages straight from the heart.
Check out my interview with her tomorrow!!
When Bernadette Maycock isn’t dreaming up vibrant leads for romantic comedies, she’s ingesting books for her blog (https://brmaycock.wordpress.com/), in particular chick lit (her first love!) books, romantic comedies and thrillers. She can also be found playing footie or watching Marvel, DC or Star Wars movies and cartoons in Co. Westmeath, Ireland with her brilliantly out there husband, Keith, and their four epic little men.
Her debut ‘It Started With A Snub’ and Christmas romantic comedy ‘Snowday’ are available now on Amazon, and Bernadette is currently working on a three part series about AbbeyGlen Village, whose luck is about to change …
She has one goal and that’s simply to make readers smile and/ or laugh (a splutter rates highest;)).
Sometimes hot cocoa just isn’t enough to keep you warm in the snow…
Eloise is too busy juggling the chaos of three kids, an ever present ex-husband and a demanding boss to even remember the last time dating crossed her mind.
But as soft snow falls silently all around, romance twinkles with the flakes.
After being single for so long, Eloise suddenly has a lot of choices. Too many choices. Will anyone be worthy of melting the guard around her heart to let love in?

Great review! I’ve never heard of the Facebook group you mentioned. I’m interested in joining. I enjoy hearing writers speak candidly about all aspects of the process, including the commercial aspects. Thank you for the book blog recommendation! I’m now following her 🙂
This sounds like a cute, fun read. And your birthday is coming up? Hmmm. That’s nice to know. Care to share what day it is? 🙂
Post Christmas, Darling❤️❤️26th… I am wondering what I should gift myself… 😂😂 Every year I give lots of gifts to myself 🤷🏻🤷🏻

This was such a sweet book by Bernie
Glad you enjoy this book Shalini. I enjoy reading your review. Your birthday is December 26th? I guess that you do not get a lot of presents for your birthday then. This is generally what happens to those born the day after a big holiday celebration. If my guess was right, I hope this year people will remember to celebrate your birthday. You are a wonderful woman and you deserve it.
Hahaha I gift myself every year so no worries about gifts. I just have to check what I want this year.. Hehe.. We don’t celebrate Christmas so it is cool.
Mr Stratton sound like quite a character. I’m looking forward to giving this one a whirl. If not in December, early Jan then!
Well… maybe now we can start discussing birthday gifts 🤔😉😄
I am open to early and late gifts😂😂😂😂
Yes…. I remember your logic about it always being an appropriate time for you to receive a bday gift 😂🤣😂🤣

I love that curmudgeonly character that aggravates, but is needed in the story. Thanks for letting me know that it is on KU and I also am now following her blog to check out those fabulous reviews you told us about. Thanks for sharing this one Shalini.
Aww… You are awesome… Bernie is really very, very sweet 💕
