Many thanks to Noelle Holten and publisher Bookouture for my spot on this Blog Tour.
Having read the earlier books by the author Carla Kovach, I was quite pumped up (learned this phrase from my friend Noriko) to read this. And a good book it was. A solid police procedural. I loved the cohesiveness of DI Gina Harte and her team.
Samantha, a girl who liked to have a good time, disappeared from the pub 7 years ago. And in the present time, Jade, who was returning from a party, was found dead with her face punched in. A gruesome sight to imagine!! To think there was a killer in the streets killing women with a blunt object. Yikes. Gina and her team started investigating. And they discovered a trail which led to a deeper meaning to these parties.
The book moved at a swift pace, I could read it in a few hours. The plot weaved Gina’s dark past into the present case. There were moments of fear and trepidation created in her. The team investigated well; the boss Briggs was quite a neat guy. I want to say I could guess the killer before Gina, oh, I am so tempted. But I didn’t because I suspected everyone. I would have loved if the story had darker twists. But that was purely my need of the hour.
My niggles crawled in. Gina was great in most of the book, but I was not too fond of her longing for her boss The one thing I didn’t like was Gina crying at work. Hmmm..
A good mystery with a solid plot line made this a fun read.
My favorite dialogue as uttered by DI Gene Harte
You were too busy listening to your penis to hear me
I kept laughing while reading this.
I received a free ARC from NetGalley and publisher Bookouture, and this is my journey into its pages, straight from the heart!! STRICTLY HONEST AND UNBIASED.

Carla Kovach was born in Birmingham, UK and now resides in Redditch, Worcestershire. Author of supernatural drama ‘Flame,’ psychological thriller ‘To Let,’ crime thriller ‘Whispers Beneath the Pines,’ and holiday comedy, ‘Meet Me at Marmaris Castle.’ Carla also writes stage and screenplays, some of which have been produced in the Worcestershire area. Her feature film ‘Penny for the Guy’ is being made and is set for release in 2019.
Seven years after Samantha’s disappearance, on what would have been her thirty-fifth birthday, her best friend Diane is shocked to find a letter addressed to Samantha on her doorstep.
Opening the envelope, Diane pulls out a birthday card and a finger nail painted in dusky pink nail polish. The same shade Samantha always wore. The same shade she was wearing the night she went missing.
When police analyse the nail, they don’t get the result they expected. Instead of linking them to Samantha, the nail belongs to another woman, Jade Ashmore. And Jade was murdered the night before the envelope was delivered….

I love that line, I laughed out loud when I read it. I have heard good things about this author and the Gina Harte series, but have not have the opportunity to read any yet. Nice review, I will have to try one. Is it best to read them in order or does it matter?
I read the first book and then I have read this. So I didn’t remember much of the first, didn’t have a problem with this.. I loved that dialogue hahahaha
Thanks Shalini.
