My review
Willow Bloom, a few days prior to her 13th birthday, discovers the secrets of her life. She is the Light Keeper, the Awakened, who is supposed to maintain light flow between Earth and the Dream Keepers‘ world, Thera. A pathway which keeps the dreams of humans alive so that they are a potential to become real, for humanity to progress and grow.
Willow is given the book TriGamon to understand, training at the Academy, a necklace with the crystal called TriVrata, and a Light helper called Hugo. This crash course in being Awakened is done to combat the dark forces of Lord Maleceius and his minions Vraag. The book One in the series has Willow in a quest to find an age old book Kryon to save the world from plunging into despair.
The author E. V. Farrell has done a brilliant job to describe the world of Thera and the light pathway. The incantations and the techniques learnt in the Academy adds a mystical layer to the story. The plot is straightforward – good vs evil – but the characters learn to act quickly in times of peril. All the characters are magical and intelligent in this book.
Willow as the main character is remarkably well supported by Hugo. Their bond would soon develop in the second book. Willow, though only 13, shows maturity and knowledge far beyond her age. She is present in every page of the book, so I don’t get to know much of the others, other than their interactions with Willow.
The book took me a couple of days to read, it was slightly more descriptive than I am used to, with a lot of characters, who come sequentially, so they don’t hinder my reading. But I hope I don’t have to remember them all for the next book. The pace is a bit slow, so I learnt to skim over paragraphs which don’t add to the quest.
I liked how the author has brought about a perfect combination of sci-fi, fantasy, with a good amount of spirituality and philosophy. Overall it has the potential to become a good series!! An enjoyable read.
I received an ARC from publisher, and this is my honest and unbiased opinion.
My rating : 4 stars

Book blurb
Willow Bloom’s biggest challenge is to organise her thirteenth birthday party. However, a walk in the woods near her home provides some big surprises – a mystical guardian from another world, a magical forest, and the discovery that her parents are part of a secret order that protects dreams. With the discovery comes a calling. A prophecy tells of a young one who can push back the dark forces that threaten to corrupt our hopes and dreams. Is Willow that young one? Can she take on the forces of evil, the Underlord Maliceius, and win?

It’s hard to mix so many genres: but I see two of my favorite ones: Science Fiction and Fantasy. And I like the story that you are describing here as well 😊 As always…you write a review that just makes me want to read this again! Wonderful post! 😊😊
Read this again? My review or the book? And you flatter me… Most days I am word blocked now… No idea what’s happening
Haha…the book, although I would not mind reading your review again either 😊
Very entertaining and thought-provoking review, Shalini. Good description of the pace and characters and to the heart of the book.
Thank you Gin… What are you reading
supposed to maintain light flow between Earth and the Dream Keepers‘ world…. I’m liking the premise of the story 🙂
Yes… A wee bit descriptive but let’s see what book 2 brings
I sometimes think series books should come with a foldout character list so I can remember who they all are!! Great review, Shalini!!
I agree… I want a recapto be written at the beginning of the book

Thank you Shalini for your lovely review. As a debut author I am truly humbled to receive 4 stars for my first review! Interestingly I was already toying with the idea of putting a character list in. I will investigate the possibility. Your comments are very helpful for book 2 as are everyone’s. Thanks again.
Yayy. Thank you so much Elizabeth. It is an honor when the author comments on my post. ❤️
Great review! Your word choice is most flattering, as are all your comments. Because of you, the literary world is a much kinder place.
