Many thanks to publisher Harlequin Books for my spot on this Blog Tour.
An absolutely fun book that I read when I was not well, and believe me, it pulled me deep into the story in spite of my headache.
Debra Webb is an amazing author, and the storyline, though familiar, still captivated me. A woman Allison hiding in witness protection, waiting for her testimony against her own father-in-law, was being protected by her first love Jaxson. Her hiding place was compromised, and they had to escape. On the run, sparks flew while being surrounded by an air of danger.
The atmosphere was fast moving, where the characters had to keep their wits about. Alison was intelligent and kind. I loved that the author made her strong, bold, and clear headed. Strength is seeking help when you are in over your head. That was the way Ali was. She knew she needed help and she rolled with it, even when her heart melted around Jaxson and she didn’t want him to get hurt.
The conversation held a nostalgia of the past and a hope for future. The writing kept me on the go, rooting for this couple. Past was unfurled in sections along with the present. The villains were ever present at every corner, and the author gave the story the right amount of danger.
Jaxson was a great agent and an absolute sweetheart. He kept my mind diverted from real life. Swift paced, the story could be read in a couple of hours. It was loads of fun. Serious moments interspersed with zingy ones. I loved it. Well recommended, especially in ill health.
P. S. I never knew this was book 5. It worked well as a standalone
I received a free ARC from NetGalley and the publisher, and this is my journey into its pages, straight from the heart!! STRICTLY HONEST AND UNBIASED.

Excellent review, Shalini. I hope you feel better soon.
I am hoping I do too. I am so fed up of lack of energy and coughing the whole day and night
I hope you’re feeling better, Shalini.
No honey I am still in a state of complete exhaustion I think I slept for 30 hours in the past 2 days
…. I’m sorry to hear that, Shalini. Do you know what you’re fighting?
It was a lung infection which got treated with antibiotics, but the after effects of the high dose medicines and the bacterial damage have left me very tired
I didn’t see this post, Shalini. Are you feeling a little better now?
I am better now. Much better. Took a month to be okay.
How are you doing ml
I’m so glad you’re doing better, Shalini!
I am doing okay. Many of my issues are chronic so I’ve learned to try my best to live with them.
One day at a time Laurie…. Rest will follow
Yes!!
Yay – I’m glad you liked it too!
Ooooh did I miss out on your review? Got to get back to blogging. Fed up of my ill health…. I think I coughed out my lungs
Debra Webb IS an excellent writer. Great review, Shalini!
Thank you so much I have another book by her. I read her books long back so it was fun to get back to them
Super review and I’m impressed you’ve been getting books from Harlequin.
I was shocked too. They used to be my fav reads long long ago when I read only romances. So I loved it when I was approved for their books
Good to know this can be read as a standalone. Nice review Shalini.
Thank you. I came to knowuch later that it was part of series. For me, it worked as a standalone. Sorry I have been lost. My cough and other things have zapped my energy. Other than listening to audiobook I have hardly been able to sit up
You need to take care of yourself Shalini. That is what is important. I am in the same boat, listening to audiobooks, reading a few and trying to respond to blogs, but I am not sick, just trying to balance my life a bit more.
Love the review, Shalini! Can we call it a little bit “feminism inspired”? Hope you are feeling better, and have not missed my forgotten Valentine’s wishes. Sorry, i am such a fool (some times). Michael
Hahaha I have no idea Michael when the valentine’s day was as all the days seem to be same when ill. So every day can be a valentine’s day
Thank you for taking it so calmly and not being angry to me, Shalini! I wish you a good recovery! Drink plenty of tea, and eat garlic. Best wishes, Michael
