Blurb
One phone call changes everything.
Eden’s mom is dead in what looks to be a murder-suicide.
She wasn’t perfect but Eden can’t believe she could be a killer.
But if her mom didn’t do it, who did?
My Review
What it was all about
Don’t Believe A Word by Patricia MacDonald was an apt title as Eden was led around by half-truths. A lingering doubt about her mother’s death made her stick to the personal investigation.
Interesting premise. I was so pulled in by the blurb, as I was also eager to know who had killed Eden’s mother and her step-brother.
Listened to the audio version and partly read the ebook, liked the audio better. The narrator had got the voice right. Eden was less irritating on audio.
What was good
The premise was interesting. I liked how the author packed it with half-truths where Eden had to carefully traverse through the lies to get to the truth.
The perp was completely unexpected, so that was a huge plus.
What was bad
But the book lacked in delivery. Consider this to be either a mini-spoiler alert or a trigger warning. A sibling incest was weaved in, which made the story feel icky.
It felt the book had a notch-potch of icky characters thrown together, though at the end, the perp’s reasons were weird enough. I still didn’t get my complete answers.
I had no idea why the main character was targeted or maybe by the time the book got to near its finish, she had become so irritating that I hoped someone would kill her, just to shut down her stupidity, vis-a-vis the evidence on the computer.
Should you read?
A BIG NOPE.
Waste of my time and money.

I downloaded the digital version of the book from an online retail, and this is my journey down its pages, straight from the heart. STRICTLY HONEST and UNBIASED.
