The Breakdown by Arianne Richmonde
Blurb
One day she had the perfect life. The next it was gone…
I stand at the very edge of the cliff face, looking at the roaring ocean below my feet.
I’m in no danger, in fact my husband and his sister talk just feet away from me, watching my every move.
Behind them sits a place my husband refers to as our summer house.
Apparently it’s my favorite place in the world, not that I can remember.
Since the car accident, I’ve struggled to remember a lot of important things in my life, like giving birth to my daughter, Violet, just days after the crash.
Or how perfect my marriage is.
As I stare at the huge expanse of blue before me, I have a flashback to the crash—a detail so small it might seem insignificant to some, but to me it’s everything.
So why is it so different to what everyone around me is telling me?
Beads of sweat gather on my neck.
If my memory is true, my life and my children’s lives could be in danger.
What really happened the day of the accident?
And is there anyone left who I can trust?
My Review
What was it all about
A few characters made this book. A wife and mother, two live children, one baby that died of SIDS, a husband, his sister, a nurse, an au pair, a psychologist, a diving instructor. Followed by a cop on the disappearance of one of the kids.
The Breakdown was an amalgamation of all their lives as the minds of some of them showed how dark minds would work.
How it made me feel
There was suspense since I didn’t know what exactly was happening as many events felt disjointed. And quite unbelievable.
Confused was my outlook when the newborn child was told to have died of SIDS and the other daughter disappeared in a week’s time and none of the characters appeared extremely perturbed.
The Good
Unlikable characters. The right amount of disquiet was given to everyone which made me feel that there were untold secrets hidden.
The Bad
Too many POVs. And it was obvious that they were written in just to make the waters murkier. There was no vibe of doubt or suspense emanating from them.
The format of prose. There was weird way of writing which did not help me in connecting to the characters.
I was extremely bored. Got suckered in by those 5-star reviews. After a certain point, I didn’t want to care about them and wished all of them would die. I read the book as I didn’t want to DNF.
The Conclusion
Read only if you have nothing to read and if available free or on KU.

I downloaded the digital version of the book from an online retail, and this is my journey down its pages, straight from the heart. STRICTLY HONEST and UNBIASED.

OMG, you wished all the characters would just die!! LOL!! What are you like, Princess Shalini?
hahaha It is a thriller. If they died, it would thrill me. So that was the ideal solution to my boredom. 🤣
