My Review
What was The Fall all about
The Fall by author Louise Jensen was an extremely enjoyable domestic thriller, where secrets abounded within all the family members, and the ending was explosive and threw me off the loop.
A standalone, the author managed to plot all the characters well within the mosaic of the life they were living. Kate and Beth were twins who had daughters Caily and Teagen. The cousins were as close as sisters, but with the announcement of the lead role of a musical going to Caily, darkness of their emotions loomed over both.
Then one day Caily fell off the bridge, and someone used her phone to anonymously call the cops, without waiting for her to be saved.
The Hook
Trigger Warnings: none
The first few chapters led the vein in which this book was going to be written in. Gripping and addictive were the dual words I would use for The Fall.
This author had been hit or miss in the past. In this, she was a surefire hit. Someone pushing Caily off the bridge deliberately in her own family farm was the compelling hook that made me keep coming back to the book. Not that I went anywhere.
One of the well-written thrillers available in 2023.
The Characters
I liked that the author gave equal number of pages for all the characters, giving me the time to imbibe all their peculiarities. Through the careful etching of their characteristics and different timelines, I could get the backstory for each one of them.
Every character in this book tried to do their best in making something out of their lives, yet the human frailties of protecting the loved ones and non communication were evident and well used to further the story. Emotions of helplessness and frustration along with desperation made me believe the subplots.
Adding a hook to every chapter made this a rocking breakfast read.
The Intricacies of The Fall
I liked the interlinkage of all the subplots as the lives of these characters were interweaved. That made The Fall a white-knuckled read. The suspense and thrill hidden in every corner and interesting scenes in the chapters made the story compulsive, pulling me in with every page.
I took a break from work and read this book in one-go. That should give you the idea how much I liked it.
There were a few subplots that were dragged for more than a chapter, but those didn’t completely mar my enjoyment, but they were noticeable. And a couple of things from the past suddenly popped up without foreshadowing.
The Setting and The Pace
The farm on which the book was set on was well described. With clever skills, the author delightfully kept the pace fast, barring a couple of places. Momentum kept to the higher level of fast with hints of so many secrets made me read The Fall in 3 hours straight.
The style of writing - The Fall
Quite clever was the author’s style of writing in adding suspense and a sense of something more than what met the eye. Ms. Jensen made me want to dig through the layers in the characters’ lives and get to the secret.
She managed to make all the characters memorable by carefully laying down the cornerstones of their lives, wrapping them in hints of secrets and lies. The book spoke its mystery well.
How it made me feel
Absolutely thrilled. I enjoyed every moment spent in the pages of the book. Each reveal was like a bubble of suspense falling over me.
Why the 4 stars, you ask? That was because I could guess the perp and some of the scenes and a couple of characters didn’t need so many pages.

Do I recommend The Fall?
Yes. Very much so. The book was exactly what would appeal to thriller readers all over. It might have its moments, but the twists truly made up for them.

I downloaded the digital version of the book from an online retail, and this is my journey down its pages, straight from the heart. STRICTLY HONEST and UNBIASED.
