I love a kickass heroine, I love one more if she has a killer sword.
And Raven is both, she is the last Valkyrie, shut off forever from the Valhalla.
This is my first book by the author Kareena Espinosa, and she did take me on a sweet ride down the pages. I love that Raven is not the sweet, perfect main character, but she drinks, pops pills, and finds her pleasure wherever she can.
The initial chapters have flashbacks of her past with her sisters and father, Odin. So that gives me a glimpse into the beginning of her life, yet a lot of the secrets are kept shut for book2.
Raven is ably supported by a banshee Charlie, a human cop Will, and a godly shapeshifter and son of Loki, Fen. The book reads fast, there are a lot of scenes where I wanted to high-five Raven. She is bold, brass, and absolutely hard-assed.
I like that the author has put chinks in her armor especially her love and friendship for Charlie and Will. I like their bonding, their trust. In fact their trust in her shines more.
But in making the main character seem human, there are few niggles which made me not fall completely in love with Raven. She whines and gives up too often.
I understand she is on a self destructive mode, but I did not exactly get why she is on that path. The last scene has Charlie and Will boosting her morales up by showing her the positive aspects of her life. Charlie has more great ideas than her.
Raven is a Valkyrie, but I love the banshee more!! I would love to see what the author does in Book 2. Overall an enjoyable, fun read

I see there’s an Odin and Valhalla hall to a Valkyrie story.. I read a duology on Valkyrie by Amanda Hocking few months ago so I guess the mythology is the same. I’m glad you enjoyed this book.
