MY REVIEW
You have read the book. You have seen the television series. Everyone knows about it. All of us have read – And there were none by Agatha Christie. This book by Ruth Ware was on the same theme.
10 top executives of a company called Snoop + 1 chalet high up + treacherous paths of skiing + 1 lost in snow + 1 ran away + 3 killed = few barely alive survivors. What happened in the chalet?
This was a classic whodunit which kept me completely involved in the story, trying to find the clues and detect the lies in each one’s story. The writing was smooth like the newly fallen snow but quite slippery where I couldn’t catch the lies.
I loved Erin the chalet girl, who looked after the guests along with Danny the chef, but with secrets on her own. Her intelligence and powers of detection shone through. Even though the plot arc was familiar, there was always the excitement of wanting to be right.
Guessing the perp and the motive to kill became a game which kept me occupied on a sleepy afternoon.
On a frank note, I wish authors wouldn’t write on this theme anymore. I did understand that it was always tempting to try to make it different than the original. But nobody could come close to Agatha Christie and Hercule Poirot, even if one tried to inject newer subplots.
My question to you
Would you like to read this plot arc or like me, are you done with it?

BOOK BLURB
Snow is falling in the exclusive alpine ski resort of Saint Antoine, as the shareholders and directors of Snoop, the hottest new music app, gather for a make or break corporate retreat to decide the future of the company. At stake is a billion-dollar dot com buyout that could make them all millionaires, or leave some of them out in the cold.
The clock is ticking on the offer, and with the group irrevocably split, tensions are running high. When an avalanche cuts the chalet off from help, and one board member goes missing in the snow, the group is forced to ask – would someone resort to murder, to get what they want?

Fab review Shalini, and I thought I was the only one done with this plot arc😊😊😊 But as soon as I hear a miniscule comparison to Agatha Christie, I am dying to read it😆😆😆
Hahah I understand. I got the book blindly because it was Ruth Ware… Then realized the theme
I loved Christie’s version and no other can beat the first time reading the story. But, I never seem to tire of the theme😏 Excellent review, Shalini💜 I have this on audio.
I think the audio version would be fabulous. I thought about getting the audio one, but I got too involved in being a Detective
I do get tired of rehashed themes and retellings, but don’t seem to mind as much if they are done well.
Same here. I love my whodunit but not on similar settings. Maybe they need to think different setting and motives
great review and must answer, yes, i did read, and yes, it’s a tired arc. seems i read two more of the same not soon after. now it’s up for final in the Goodreads, mystery-thriller category, along with another i read (listened to), the Sun Down Motel (not thrilled with it). didn’t know the others. have you voted in the Goodreads thing yet?
Excellent review Shalini. I blow hot and cold on Ruth Ware anyway, but probably will still listen to this book when my library gets it on audio.
There are so many that are adaptations of her idea. I agree that Agatha Christie has written the definitive “and then there were none.” Authors need to come up with something original.
This sane setting of a ski lodge blizzard people dying has been done before so we need new things
I don’t mind this plot arc when it’s done well. I’m actually curious about this book but I’ve read a lot of bad reviews for it. I might read it anyway, maybe I’ll be surprised because my expectations are so low. 😂
Hahaha true I enjoyed it as it felt like a locked resort mystery but the author does go on about skiing.
