Many thanks to Tracy Fenton and Compulsive Readers for my spot on this Blog Tour.

Oh what a beautiful book which gave an opportunity to 3 families to start their life again in the beautiful locales of Italy. When the youngest mayor of the town of Montebello, Salvio Valentino offered 3 ramshackle houses for £1 each with a condition that the houses have to be renovated in 3 years and the home owners should contribute to the town community. Many applications were received, and the mayor chose 3. Mimi from London, recently divorced, Elise and Richard from Bristol, Edward and Gino from Sydney who wanted to bring a spark to their relationship.

My first book by Nicky Pellegrino had me smiling in joy at the descriptions of this mountain town. Every word made me want to run away and start a new life in this community where the people were so warm. The beauty of the landscapes had me sighing, longing to be a part of this town. There are some books in which one can lose themselves, this was one of them for me.

An easy to read story told in 4 POV of the characters helped me connect with them. Some parts of their lives resonated with me. The book had a bit of mystery too running in the background with one of the characters’ family. It was obvious the author had dipped her pen in the ink of love while writing this book. The characters grew up and found themselves in the pages, there was a different joie de vivre in them. Nicky made them come alive for me.

A feel good story, this book helped me escape the realities of life for a few hours and transported me to Italy, another place I would like to visit in this lifetime or the next.

I received a free ARC from Tracy and publisher Orion, and this is my journey into its pages, straight from the heart!! STRICTLY HONEST AND UNBIASED.

When Nicky Pellegrino’s Italian father came to England he fell in love with and married a Liverpool girl. He brought to his new family his passion for food and instilled in them what all Italians know – that you live to eat instead of eating to live. This Italian mantra is the inspiration behind Nicky’s delicious novels. When Nicky met and married a New Zealander she moved to Auckland where she works as a journalist and edits a woman’s magazine.

For sale: historic building in the picturesque town of Montenello, southern Italy. Asking price: 1 Euro

Cloudless skies, sun-soaked countryside, delicious food… In the drowsy heat of an Italian summer, four strangers arrive in a beautiful town nestled in the mountains of Basilicata, dreaming of a new adventure. An innovative scheme by the town’s Mayor has given them the chance to buy a crumbling historic building for a single Euro – on the condition that they renovate their home within three years, and help to bring new life to the close-knit local community.

Elise is desperate to get on the property ladder. Edward wants to escape a life he feels suffocated by. Mimi is determined to start afresh after her divorce. And there’s one new arrival whose true motives are yet to be revealed…

  1. Wonderful review, Shalini! You know it’s based on a true story of a mayor putting properties for 1 euro? With one condition that the families are actually going to live in the community. 4 POVs is usually one too many for me, but sounds like author did a good job with them💜

  2. Feel good stories are always wonderful. I have never been to Italy myself, but I love Italian food, it’s actually my favorite, so who knows maybe some day 😊 You should definitely go to Europe at some point…first stop of course has to be Holland 😘😊

      1. 🤔🤔 Well…because erm, we have windmills, and Dutch cheese and erm….🤔🤔 Well, that’s about it. Oh yeah, and there lives this kind of crazy Dutch guy 😂😂😘😊

  3. Wonderful, thoughtful review Shalini. It sounds like a book I would absolutely enjoy and knowing it is based on a true story always makes it more appealing to me. And then there is that cover.
