MY REVIEW
Andie Belle was murdered by Sal Singh. Overcome with guilt he killed himself.
Everyone believed it. The cops. The towns men. The friends. In that darkness of alleged truth, like a beacon of light, emerged an earnest, knock-out-of the park intelligent teen, Pippa Fitz-Amobi, who refused to believe the Sal she knew could have done it. But it had been 5 years.
She began her murder map, plotting timelines and suspects and alibis. Talking to people, getting her interviews, following some, breaking in, pretending to be someone else. She did it all.
Shocking secrets came out every few pages as the author Holly Jackson wrote them seamlessly. Absolutely brilliant. With a few words and interspersing lines, the vibe of a Young Adult was set.
But the core was always of a murder mystery. It was simply brilliant how the author set about the connections. It seemed so simple but in reality, was so complex. Now I knew why the cover had the threads on it. That was the crawling spider of investigation, making the web of truth stronger than the deceit.
This was not a recent murder but set at the past, relying on the memories of people. But to see this main character manage her pre-uni preparations and essays and admission forms along with this last Extended Project Qualification was simply amazing.
Her brain worked fast, her instincts were straight-on. She carried the book from start to finish, with Ravi, Sal’s brother, who needed this truth to set him free.
I loved her family too. They were supportive and humorous. She had her gang of friends. But Pippa stood apart. She was someone I would aspire to me at any age.
Something about this book touched my inner sense of justice, quickened my speed of reading, and made my pulse race with each swipe of my kindle.
I read thrillers nearly every day of the week. But this was different. There was something so unique about this, with its production log, transcripts of interviews. It stood out amidst the other sea of books.
You’ve got to read this. For Pippa. For her intelligence. Her enthusiasm. Her core goodness. For the author Holly Jackson who made me her instant fan. My book of recommendation always.

Excellent review Shalini. This is one that I heard a lot about when it was released, nice to see it is still getting positive reviews.
A new name for me so I rushed to Netgalley – I am too late for this one but requested the next one. You sold me, even though it is YA
