MY REVIEW
Darcy arrived home to the castle for a cooking competition held every year to pay for its upkeep. But this year they had Beatrice, who had her own agenda. Love and romance, recipe and sabotage were weaved in this tale.
My first book by author Kate Brown, the recipes sounded delicious. I love MasterChef Australia, and to read about a story under the same setting was delightful. Made me hungry too for cakes. Not the velvet cupcake. You have to read the book to know the reason.
Romance was slow and sweet. I liked the wooing and friendship that went with it. Interspersed in the first half was a flashback to 1969 about a young girl Colleen and the abuse she underwent. Those chapters raised my pathos.
Then came my niggles. The book was a wee bit long and rambling. I liked the sabotage section as they brought spice to the story. Emotions could have been stronger as seen in sections of 1969.
Overall, it was an entertaining breakfast read.

I received an ARC from the author, and this is my journey down its pages, straight from the heart. STRICTLY HONEST and UNBIASED.

This seems significantly lighter breakfast fare than your usual bloody murder or thriller. You must be going soft 😉
Ah well lazy Sunday brunch. Now reading a thriller. Are my comments on June posts visible or gone to spam.
Sounds like a delightful read. I like my romances to be sweet and not overly long though.
