I love, love, love this picture book written by Laura Roettiger and illustrated by Ariel Boroff.
The writing
Laura has done a fabulous job in writing short sentences in each page which is perfect for reading for kids or being read out. Every word speaks about the wonder and joy of nature, especially about the moon and its reflected light.
Aliana, her parents, and her brother Gus have such a bond that love just seeps out in every page even when Aliana is messy. There is understanding and acceptance. It is quite obvious via the pictures that the parents allow both their children to explore and create. Living in Rocky mountains gives all of them a chance to be close to nature.
In the entire book, there is so much love for nature shown with horseriding, hikes, stars, moon, forest, tree-house. The entire story is about science and how Aliana combines her knowledge of science and nature to make the perfect birthday gift for her brother.
The illustrations
Ariel Boroff is a talented genius with her drawings. Every color chosen, every schematic representation, every stroke of the drawing is shown accurately. A feeling of awe and attraction is evoked from the first page. Every time I open this book, I am pulled toward it. The colors are bright and cheerful, the drawings so lovingly done.
Laura and Ariel make the perfect combination. Laura has also added a note at the end about the phases of the moon which would help the kids to understand how moon waxes and wanes.
Creativity can be a little messy, as Aliana says
But I say, Laura and Ariel’s creativity is PERFECT and AWESOME
Overall, this is a fantastic read and the perfect gift for my niece.
I received a digital copy of the book from the author, and this is my journey into its pages, straight from the heart!!

Do you love picture books?
Aliana loves observing everything in nature. When she notices how bright the light of the full moon shines into her room, she spends time learning about the moon and experimenting with light. As she prepares for her brother s birthday, she plans a wonderful surprise to be revealed with the next full moon.

I do miss picture books sometimes. The ohana and I have fond memories of combing through the kids section of books and bringing home a stack.
