A cute love story between a Pilates studio owner Meredith and a single father Ace who repaired classic cars.
My first book by Shelley Shepard Gray, the story had me identifying with both the characters as they were both closed off in the beginning and slowly opened up when the pages turned.
Love happened between these two characters unexpectedly when a mugging caused Ace to enter her life. The characters developed slowly, and it was fun to see them start to trust each other, rough edges and all.
The book was well written in most parts. I thought it would be a clean read but does have its expletives/innuendos. I didn’t like the main character thinking smoking was cool. But to each his/her own. And I didn’t like the poker references, probably because I don’t play poker
Overall, barring a few scenes, skimming a few parts, the story was a sweet romance, read in 2 hours.
I received an ARC from NetGalley and publisher Blackstone Publishing, and this is my journey into its pages, straight from the heart!!

Shelley Shepard Gray is the New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of numerous romantic fiction series and mystery novels, including the Seasons of Sugarcreek series, the Sisters of the Heart series, the Families of Honor series, and others. She is a recipient of RT Book Reviews Reviewers’ Choice Award.
Meredith Hunt is content with her solo life. She owns and runs a successful Pilates studio, volunteers at the high school every week, and recently bought a house. She can take care of herself, which is good because she has a hard time relying on other people. When she’s mugged and a handsome man comes to her rescue, she doesn’t know how to accept his help-or how to stop staring into his chocolate-brown eyes.
Ace Vance moved to Bridgeport to offer his fifteen-year-old son, Finn, a better life. Here, Finn has a chance to play football for a good team and maybe even earn a college scholarship. And Ace scored a job at a top-notch garage, where he gets to fix up classic cars. Plus, they could both use some distance from Finn’s toxic mom. The last thing on his mind is falling in love, but he can’t help offering assistance to a gorgeous redhead in need.
Thrown together by a careless criminal, Meredith and Ace can’t deny their attraction. But can they open their hearts-and their lives-to make room for love?

If you had not told me to, I would have
This sounds like such a sweet romance. And I have to be honest… love a hot single dad.
Hahaha I would love a hot single man… 😂 😂
You seem to have hit a spat of so so books lately – hope your luck improves soon.
Nah nah.. I read a book everyone rah-rahed and I have written a downer of a review… 🙈
Glad it was a bit sweet and not so bad of a read! Great review! 😀
Thank you… It was great in most parts… I think I am off romance now 😂😂
Romance is such a saturated genre that it needs to be pretty good to stand out.
Agreed… I read it rarely
Well, we can’t have it great all the time right lol? But glad you enjoyed some of it at least 😊
Agreed.. It had its own sweetness ❤️
I’m more of a yoga kind of girl than Pilate but it’ll do, haha! Great review!
Hahaha…. I have to start both… 😂 😂
I feel like I’ve been reading so many books lately where I notice how often the main character smokes! It bothers me too. Great review, Shalini!!!
I don’t mind the smoking, but thinking it made the guy look sexy just put me off… I don’t like kissing Ash trays so no smoking for my guy.. If love ever happens 😂😂
Nice mix… hot mechanic single dad. Yay. Smoking cool… boo. 😉
Time for you to get an awesome fun read!
Time to finish these arcs and go to my KU books
Yup!
Fab review, Shalini. Can’t remember ever seeing you review a romance novel before 😀 That smoking is cool thing sounds so wrong. Otherwise, glad this was somewhat an okay read.
I have reviewed a few of the the hallmark romantic books. I have one more in my kitty… Will read in between my thrillers ❤️
I like to mix up my reads too!
How are you Linda? I have missed you!
Thanks, Shalini. It’s been a busy, frustrating season. Unplanned things have come out of nowhere to eat up my time and energy. I have had to read, blog, and comment in spare moments. BUT I have not been sick and I am thankful for that. Are you up and running at 100% again?
Yep I am doing okay.. I understood… I hope you can get back to reading as soon as possible ❤️😘
