Happy Publication Day!!

There were 2 stories running in this book. The primary story was about Matt who called the cops to report that his wife had accidentally fallen off the cliff. Had she? The rangers and police officers believed him until they found that his first wife had died in mysterious circumstances, (read burned to death), and the cops started their investigation with new eyes. Was the husband a killer? A body was found in the river running below the cliff. Who was she? The secondary story was about one of cops in the investigation and his past.

My first book by author JoAnn Chaney, the main story was so wicked that I couldn’t believe what I was reading. The twists made me cackle evilly. I loved when the characters behaved in a most hateful manner. I didn’t know whom to believe and didn’t even know if they loved or hated each other. I learned from them hating each other was also a kind of love. At many points while reading, I heard sinister sounds around me and realized it was just me laughing. Whew!!

Give me evil characters who are determined to destroy each other, and I am in absolute thriller-y bliss. It is the ultimate book high for me. This book took me to such great heights. There were some absolutely delightful writing by the author which had me rubbing my hands with malicious glee.

My niggles were with the secondary story which was interweaved, it felt more like a filler and was not needed. It had nothing to do with the main story and it slowed the pace of the whole book.

A winding road of the plot filled with twists and steep turns where they was the cliff on the left and river on the right, where love was bullet spewed from a gun, knife into the gut, caved-in skull, deliberately pulled tooth, unholy flames burning a body. If your heart loves thrillers as much as I do and you want to know more, READ THE BOOK!!

I received an ARC from NetGalley and publisher Pan Macmillan, and this is my journey into its pages, straight from the heart!!

JoAnn Chaney is a graduate of UC Riverside’s Palm Desert MFA program. She lives in Colorado with her family. Her debut novel, What You Don’t Know, was longlisted for the Crime Writers’ Association’s New Blood Dagger Award and was one of BookRiot’s Best Mysteries of the Year. As Long As We Both Shall Live is her second novel.

‘My wife! I think she’s dead!’ Matt frantically calls to park rangers, explaining that he and his wife, Marie, were out hiking when she stumbled on a cliff edge and fell into the raging river below. They start a search but aren’t hopeful: no one could have survived that fall.
It’s a tragic accident.

But when police discover Matt’s first wife also died in suspicious circumstances – a fire in their family home – they have a lot more questions for him.

Is Matt a grieving husband, or has he just killed his second wife? Detectives Loren and Spengler dig into the couple’s lives to see what they can unearth. And they find that love’s got teeth, it’s got claws, and once it hitches you to a person, it’s tough to rip yourself free.

So what happens when you’re done making it work?

    1. The main story was great. It was just the cop’s personal story way into his past which felt like a filler and was not needed. But the rest – oh my, they were so twisted and bad

    1. Hahaha the couple was so twisted. They kept killing each other but nobody would die… Omg omg it was wicked… My mum came to investigate 🙈🙈
