Many thanks to Tracy Fenton and Compulsive Readers for my spot on this Blog Tour.
This was a sweet domestic suspense which took me on a winding road of suspects and motives and strange family dynamics.
Nicola after the death of Charlie was living in the annex cottage of Charlie’s stepbrother Ben and wife Fiona and their kids. Daughter Sarah would visit her mum twice a week or so. Nicola started feeling ill, collapsed and died!! The mystery started when Sarah was convinced that the death was not natural.
My first book by author Jessica Eames, I loved the way the author had created pockets of shadows in the chapters. Every scene had me doubting the characters. I started reading in between the lines to get to the real story. And you bet, I was successful. The story was a mirage.
I didn’t like the characters, they were all weird. But the mystery lay in that weirdness, and the author brilliantly took advantage of that to build up the suspense. Having a thriller-y heart, I wanted more suspense and a cohesive story. I didn’t want to guess the story so easily.
Overall, a sweet domestic noir, to be read in between intense thrillers.
I received a free ARC from NetGalley and publisher, and this is my journey into its pages, straight from the heart!! STRICTLY HONEST AND UNBIASED.

A tragic death. A dark family secret. A past you can’t escape. How well do you really know those closest to you?
Sarah’s world has descended into a nightmare. Her only hope of moving on is to find out the truth of what happened and make sure the guilty are brought to justice. She is haunted by her dad’s death, consumed by her grief and the memories of a cruel day that changed her life forever… she doesn’t even know who she is anymore. But the future holds some hope for Sarah, as she tries to move forward.
Nicola’s future is not looking so hopeful. Since her husband died, the secret she’s been keeping from her family – especially her daughter, Sarah – is eating away at her. The past is catching up with her, and the consequences will be devastating.
A story about family, and of obsession, revenge, and identity.

I totally get this, the book sounds like a frustrating read yet you feel on the hook, intrigued, and have to see it to the end.
Exactly… Easy to guess but wanted to know if I was right. Only 5 characters
Great review! I’ll keep it for a break between two dark crime fiction novels! x
It was fun.. Almost gentle and easy to guess, Meggy. Thank you so much ❤️
Interesting review. I was surprised to see “sweet” and “noir” in the same sentence. That says this book is different!
It was fun read, easy to guess. Not an intense thriller
