Many thanks to Lisa and publisher Harlequin Books for my spot on this Blog Tour.

A fun read during turbulent times. I deliberately chose this book as I wanted suspense and murder along with hint of love. With a K-9 on the cover (and my friend GIN loving dogs) I had to read this.

When a couple was murdered and a child was the lone witness, the case reminded the cops of another murder with the same M.O. twenty years ago. Nate with his K-9 partner Murphy was soon on the right track to protect the child and her aunt Willow and get to the murderer.

My first book by author Laura Scott, I relished it with a gusto. I needed a whodunit which didn’t have too many gruesome scenes despite being a Copycat Killer. The author did a brilliant job in keeping my mind distracted for three hours.

There was action and suspense in the entire plot. Romance too awakened between the lead characters but you know me. I didn’t read much of that. So I skipped that and went to the basic investigation. I loved the whole trope of K-9 and cop getting to the truth.

Camaderie and friendships were well shown. The writing kept me stuck to my kindle with minimal stress. Characters were dynamic, and I basically didn’t want to solve anything. I just wanted to escape and live inside the book. Thanks to the talented author, I soon got back a small amount of my sanity with this pre-midnight read.

A fun murder mystery.

I received a free ARC from NetGalley and the publisher, and this is my journey into its pages, straight from the heart!! STRICTLY HONEST AND UNBIASED.

Murder strikes close to home

for a new K-9 unit in Brooklyn

When a double homicide is strikingly familiar to a twenty-year-old cold case, Detective Nate Slater is rattled by the parallels. With a child as the only witness, he and his K-9 partner must protect little Lucy and her aunt, Willow Emery. Nate’s rough past means he always keeps an emotional distance…but in this case getting closer is the only way they’ll all survive.

  1. It must be well written if you still gave it 5-stars to a murder mystery without gruesome underpinnings 😉

      1. Happy Easter, my dear! Sorry, i am late again. But not too late reading about your new love “family dramas”. What happend? 😉 Best wishes, Michael
This review is great, too. Thank you! Michael

  2. I enjoy K-9 mysteries, and this sounds like a good one. I’m not surprised that your reading tastes are altering during these troubled times. It is hard not to be changed by this apocalyptic period.

      1. I’m doing less reading than I thought I would, but enjoying it as much as ever. I’m working through my December ARC’s. 😱 My husband has limited mobility right now so I am up and down taking care of him. We watch some of Amazon Prime most days–Poldark or Victoria. I take my dogs on a walk, prepare food, and clean up. I study the Bible and have online contact with church. E-mail. Laundry and chores. Somehow the day disappears and we move on to the next one.🙃 I am blessed with good health. It seems your reading choices may be changing some, but your volume isn’t. Reading does help right now!

        1. I have slowed down quite a bit. I am used to completing a book in 3 hours, now it takes a day or so. Concentration is shot, fear has come in
