Happy Publication Day!!
I have read quite a few books by this author and I have enjoyed them all. They have tugged my heartstrings in different ways.
I downloaded the book due to the cover, it made think of beauty and feelings, and of course, the blurb. The story started with a bang, CJ worked for a Congressman who had some nefarious dealings and insider trading in stocks and was soon found to have committed suicide. Our brave protagonist started investigating which soon led to some powerful people being incarcerated. Her life being in danger with attempts on it, she was compelled to go into WITSEC, she landed on coast of Maine, met Derek and a love story and happy ending ensued.
Fern Michaels took the main character on a twisty jaunt which was fun to read in some parts. I liked CJ’s determination and loyalty to her boss. The story was…nice…I suppose, and it flowed well. But for me, I needed more.
My niggles, 52%of book was a thriller, 10% had her transitioning and moving into witness protection, the rest was a love story. So I couldn’t decide what this book was as it didn’t engage my emotions either for the thriller section or the romance. In the entire book, the CJ drank bottles of wine, it wasn’t a glass or two, always a bottle or two and from the mid half when the story became a love story, she cried in most of the scenes. I couldn’t believe she was the daring investigator of the first half. Ufff!!
Overall, I read the book and forgot it. On to my next. Thriller, oh my thriller, where art thou?!!
I received an ARC from NetGalley and publisher Kensington, and this is my journey into its pages, straight from the heart!!

Moving to a small New England town for her own protection, CJ gradually begins to engage with her new surroundings. Her blossoming friendship with the owner of a charter fishing boat offers the promise of much more. But before she can claim happiness, CJ must navigate a course through all her doubts and fears, and trust that this time, the water that took so much from her might just lead her safely home . . .

Sorry this ended up not being memorable. I’ve never read anything by this author.
Thank you so much ❤️ this author has written a lot of books her earlier works were great
It is disappointing when you expect a thriller and it turns out that it doesn’t thrill you. Especially when it is an author you have enjoyed before.
True that
I would have liked if romance came with suspense instead of in parts
Hmm… sounds like it was a bit all over the place. Good review!
I agree. Could have been amalgamated together well
A shame about this book, but your honesty in reviews is refreshing to read.
I was shocked about this book too… It had such a beautiful cover. I was enamored
Nice review, Shalini. I think the last time I read a Fern Michaels book was back in the early 2000s (one of the sisterhood books, I believe it was). I too have enjoyed her books in the past, and her covers are always eye-catching. I’m sorry this one wasn’t as good for you as her others were. Hope you have a great week! 🙂
I haven’t read that sisterhood book but I read one filled with emotions. This one seemed to be written in a different hand. Didn’t give the vibe of Fern Michaels 💖
Have a fabulous week Leslie❤️
The cover is really beautiful. Lovely review even though the book wasn’t what you’d hoped. ❤
I love the cover, rest was okay… No tugging of heart strings
Pity it was;t as wonderful as expected. But oh yes, that’s a beautiful cover!
Sighhhh.. Having a bad day… So I am off to bed
I’m sorry you are. I hope tomorrow is at least a little better.
Nopes not a bit. Bad day. Now sleeping
I’m sorry 😐
Sleep well.
This one sounds more like the genre of Romantic Suspense instead of thriller
It was 3 separate sections so couldn’t put it as romantic suspense 🤷🏻♀️
Sorry this wasn’t good for you! I have not read anything from this author, I will avoid this one!💕
Her earlier books are good.. She has been writing for nearly 20 years or more
Wonderful review! The romance would be a turn off for me as well.
The author writes romantic novels along with suspense but this felt like 3 different parts so I was unsure 🤷🏻♀️
It’s always tricky when the different elements/genres don’t fit together…
Agreeed
I enjoyed your review; too bad you didn’t enjoy the book as a whole. The main character doesn’t sound very believable.
She was good but the plot lines could have come smoothly
I went through this whole Fern Michaels phase when I was in my twenties, but after awhile I found her plots and characters too similar. I’m sorry this wasn’t a perfect read for you Shalini. If you’re looking for thrillers, I can’t recommend Dean Koontz’s Jane Hawk series highly enough.🤗
Oooh I read the first two books then slipped up I liked JANE hawk too
I just finished The Night Window which is coming out in May. I’ll be reviewing it in the next few weeks. It was a great way to end the series.☺️
Omg omg I have to get them all and read them all
ASAP my friend!🤗
I feel you!!
I feel you! Totally hate it when the synopsis tricks me or the cover is so beautiful, but the story is not… beautifully expressed (y)
I understand but that cover still attracts me ❤️
One cookie point for the cover designer than 😉
Hey… Point to the designer and cookie for me 😂😂
hahaha
Wonderful review… It has made my interest… Got to check it..
I hope you enjoy it…
