Many thanks to Laura and iReads Book Tours for my spot on this Blog Tour.
The story went thus, a woman died, Fern the herbalist gardner was accused of her murder. The people of the town especially the mayor and the doctor had an axe to grind against her since the dead woman had ingested some herbs. The Sheriff Gabe saw the truth in Fern’s eyes, and the story moved on to proving her innocence.
My first book by Kat Flannery, the story was easy to read and Fern’s love for her sisters came leaping off the pages especially when one of them was shot. Fern was etched well, I enjoyed the shades of courage and vulnerability in her. She brought out the protective instincts of Gabe pretty well.
The story had its moments of twists with outlaw and slimy men and gun shots, but the core of Fern came shining through. I am no expert in history, but I could feel the atmosphere of a different era while reading the prose, and I liked that the author made Fern and her sisters independent and mature with a more modern outlook. And boy, did they grate the heckles of the townsmen. The womenfolk liked the sisters just fine.
A historical romance of less than 200 pages took me an hour to read. The story had some insta-love happening, but those were difficult times. The author Kat Flannery has written a full story but packed it with the aroma of herbs and plants that our heroine Fern was an expert in. Overall, a fun read!!
I received a free ARC from Laura and author Kat, and this is my journey into its pages, straight from the heart!! STRICTLY HONEST AND UNBIASED.

It would take me all afternoon to read what you covered in an hour, I am in awe!
No ways it was just 140 pages, you would finish it in an hour or so
I enjoy books with string women leads.
Me too. This was a novella. My first historical romance after many years
Lovely review, Shalini! I was trying to remember the last time I read historical romance, must have been last century😁 Seriously, sounds like the book has some well-written female characters, strong and independent, something which I find welcome in any book.
This sounds like a terrific read for anyone who enjoys compelling books about the love of family with strong female protagonists. Thank you, Shalini.
Aww thank you so much ❤️
Thank you for the honest review of FERN!
Aww thank you so much ❤️
Beautiful cover!
I liked it too
Excellent review, Shalini, and as a former herbalist, I always believe in herbs and their power. It’s amazing the humongous variety of plants we have on this planet.
MC herbalist? Wow that is amazing. Do you still practice?
Great review. Sounds like its more for women pleasure. -:-) Michael
