Book 8 of the series but first book for me, I was introduced to field reporter Lee Barrett of Salem’s WICH-TV and her Aunt Ibby. One telephonic tip and Lee reported the car with human remains dredged up by the cops. The case had 2 fold effects, Aunt Ibby’s emotional one and her boyfriend Pete’s investigative one.
Carol J. Perry has written this book with an interesting and captivating murder mystery with a tinge of paranormal and witch-y talent along with psychic cat O’Ryan. The story pulled me in even when I joined it at the 8th step, I could understand the characters and get to love them. Though I could guess the killer, I didn’t know the reason and that kept me hooked to it.
Aunt Ibby was one quirky but warm character, and she fascinated me in the entire book. Lee and Pete kept me involved in their romance and investigation. Overall a quick read on a lazy afternoon.
I received an ARC from NetGalley and publisher Kensington, and this is my journey into its pages, straight from the heart!!

Carol J. Perry was born in Salem on Halloween Eve. She has written many young adult novels, in addition to the Witch City mystery series. She and her husband Dan live in the Tampa Bay area of Florida with two cats and a black Lab.
Life at the house on Winter Street is abuzz with preparations for Aunt Ibby’s 45th high school reunion, and Lee Barrett is happy to pitch in, tracking down addresses and licking envelopes. But as a field reporter for Salem’s WICH-TV, her priority is to be on top of the town’s latest news before anyone else.
When the local police dredge up a vintage sports car containing human remains, Lee is thrilled to be the first reporter on the scene. Once she learns the car is connected to the cold case her boyfriend Pete happens to be working on, her powers of investigation are quickly alerted. But it’s her Aunt Ibby’s emotional reaction to Lee’s TV report that puts her on the case. With the help of O’Ryan, her psychic feline sidekick, she’ll have to unravel a tangled past of secrets and promises to stop a killer from making history again . . .

Great review! I absolutely love that cover.
Thank you… I requested due to this cover
I like the ease of a good cozy for a change of pace. Lovely review
I read cozies, my hips have increased now reading twisty stuff.. 😂 😂 Hoping to lose some..
It’s pretty good writing when you can jump into a series from the 8th book in and still enjoy the read.
Agreed.. I had fun as it was not overly cozy but cute cozy
Lovely review! I hope you have a wonderful weekend!
Have a fab one too darling ❤️
I like it when you know who the killer is but can’t figure out the motive! Great review my dear!!! xxx
Thank you Meggy ♥️
Glad this was a quick read on a lazy afternoon at least. Great review!
Aww thank you so much ❤️
An absolute great review. Sounds a good read.
Agreed. It was a fun read
Do you often read sequels? Intentionally or accidentally? 😀 Great review, Shalini!
Hahaha I saw the cover got pulled in. Was down with flu in Feb so requested for a lot of cozies without checking… 😂 😂 There were a few I had to ask others about the characters as I just jumped in and got lost
a book that has it all: murder, supernatural, romance, intrigue. it’s a must.
Hey Jina how are you? How’s book 2
Thank you ❤️ it was a fun read
I’m well, thanks for asking. Heir of Doom released last month, it’s going well.
how about you?
I am okay… Oh congratulations.. That’s fantastic. Sorry the flu in Feb took my energy away
dreaded flu. we’ve had some sort of flu, or cold or annoying cough since the beginning of the year.
Same here… It has been rotten. The weakness post flu has been terrible
I skimmed through this post because I have to catch up in this series! Thanks for reminding me. I’ve only read the first book.
That’s great.. I haven’t read any.. This was my first I should read the others
Wonderful review Shalini. I like that this has some mystery and paranormal, my kind of deal. I love that you can pick it up from the 8th in the series and have no problem getting to the characters and their story.
In most I have to ask around.. In this it was explained. Since the main characters were only 3, easy to understand ❤️
😊
I think I saw a review of this book on Virginia’s site too… similar points raised. I hadn’t come across this series before. Start on Spells and Caramels already!
Exactly…. I want to… I just counted I have 28 books to be read and reviewed by March 31st 🙈😲😳
Well it’s a better number than you had for the end of Feb. At least….
don’t stress over it though. Reading is supposed to be your fun!
Nahhh I won’t stress I will just push it to April or December 😂😂😂 I would read the book faster if only there was some birthday gift attached to it hint hint
Wow…. that was some kind of smooth by way of segues. 😂
I aim to please… 😂 😂 Mostly please me… But I might consider pleasing you, just maybe… Now did it sound sexual? 🤔🤔🙈🙈😂😂🤣🤣🤷🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️
Hahahahaha. With you there is always the double entendre 😂
Well it wasn’t intentional… You inspire me😂😂🤣🤣
I have red the whole series and enjoyed them all, some more than others. I know you are not a huge cozy fan so I am glad you enjoyed this one. I really enjoy Aunt Ibby in these books. I wish I had an Aunt Ibby.
Hahaha I like cozy books if written well. But they seemed to have a set formula and each one wants to cram it with cuteness overloaded.
I read all genre but I Review NetGalley books on my blog, and they don’t approve other books 😂😂🤷🏻♀️
Yes, I agree about the cuteness overload. I have been enjoying cozies with more meat to their stories lately (i.e. Braxton Campus) and I like them more than the sweet, cutesy ones.
Ditto… I like both cuteness with a great mystery…
