Many thanks to Patricia and FFBC Tours for my spot on this Blog Tour.

Wow!! I loved the book.

In the mountains was the Inn of Havenfall where the innkeeper kept the peace between the different realms. There were three of them Fiordenkill, Byrn, and Solaria. The doorway to the realms were in the basement of the inn. But war occurred and Solaria were considered dangerous. So the doorway was sealed shut and peace treaty was drawn. Every year the people of the two realms met during the summer solstice in the inn which was a sanctuary of peace. Marcus was the innkeeper, and his niece Madeleine hoped to inherit the title.

Then a murder occurred, and Marcus was ill. Maddie had to take on the position.

My first book by author Sara Holland, I was completely entertained by the story. There were twists in every corner. The story tunneled through the different realms, shadowed in darkness. Everyone was hiding something.

Secrets were rampant throughout the book, right up to the last chapter, and that kept me on my toes. It was everything I wanted and more. The action adventure kept my heart pumping high with a swift kick of adrenaline. The author sure kept the prose racing to a grand finish filled with power and strength as one truth came to light which overshadowed years of lies.

There were my niggles popping in. I needed the lead character Maddie to be a bit more street smart. Wanting to be the innkeeper, it seemed she hardly knew any of the history. She felt to be more of a spectator. Many things were told repeatedly to me. Adding more layers to the story would have uplifted it.

Nevertheless, the book made me happy. The story confirmed what I suspected from the beginning. I loved the masks over the characters, it was quite thrilling when their realities were exposed. So, a fun read on a Saturday evening.

I received a free ARC from NetGalley and the publisher, and this is my journey into its pages, straight from the heart!! STRICTLY HONEST AND UNBIASED.

A safe haven between four realms. The girl sworn to protect it–at any cost.

Hidden deep in the mountains of Colorado lies the Inn at Havenfall, a sanctuary that connects ancient worlds–each with their own magic–together. For generations, the inn has protected all who seek refuge within its walls, and any who disrupt the peace can never return.

For Maddie Morrow, summers at the inn are more than a chance to experience this magic first-hand. Havenfall is an escape from reality, where her mother sits on death row accused of murdering Maddie’s brother. It’s where Maddie fell in love with handsome Fiorden soldier Brekken. And it’s where one day she hopes to inherit the role of Innkeeper from her beloved uncle.

But this summer, the impossible happens–a dead body is found, shattering everything the inn stands for. With Brekken missing, her uncle gravely injured, and a dangerous creature on the loose, Maddie suddenly finds herself responsible for the safety of everyone in Havenfall. She’ll do anything to uncover the truth, even if it means working together with an alluring new staffer Taya, who seems to know more than she’s letting on. As dark secrets are revealed about the inn itself, one thing becomes clear to Maddie–no one can be trusted, and no one is safe . . .

  1. Great review, Shalini! I also enjoyed this one a lot although I do wish that Maddie was indeed a bit more street smart and had a little more gumption in running the inn, despite the bad circumstances that led to her being in that position. Her naïveté felt off. Still a very enjoyable story though! So much intrigue 🙂

    1. True that I felt like hitting her. She was a follower even Taya was a leader, but not her. She kept changing her views with every character.

      1. Right?! It was frustrating… But the ending gave me more hope for her character and I’m looking forward to seeing how she’s gonna be in the next book 😂
