A sweet romance

My Review

My first ever CoHo. I was so happy there was not much angst in it as it would have devastated me.

Two damaged souls Beyah and Samson coming together and find the missing part in the other, a perfect understanding, it was beautiful to read about it. I understood it more as I feltdamaged on most days and had been waiting for the rare sensitivity in my partner. But I suppose such things were only seen in fictional books.

Beyah had gone through a tough life with almost no love or support from her drug addict mother. Samson had his own secrets. When Beyah’s mom died, she had to call her non-existent father as she needed a place to stay. That was where she met the man who completed her. In Texas, next door to her parent’s place.

The writing bespoke about Beyah’s feelings, and I got a hint of what Samson was going through too. It was fun to watch the two halves come together. Heart had no bones, that was a scientific fact, but it did as life became extremely devastating when it broke. Beyah’s mended with Samson’s caring.

But the author went on to put in an unexpected twist, and the heart bone broke again. Being a HEA, I knew the story would end in happiness, but the path to it had a lot more of self-discovery and loving oneself and forgiving the others. Beyah was courageous enough to walk down that road and try to be happy even when she wasn’t.

Then came my niggles; I kept waiting for the emotions to hit me hard and make me cry, which I knew was quite contrary to my first line. There was no lump in my throat in the entire book. The ending felt a bit rushed as compared to the rest. Those were negligible.

Overall, the author sure was talented to write a tale of two people damaged by life but healed by each other. Nothing could stop the purity in their hearts and the depth of their feelings. A fast paced loving read.

My Rating

Rating: 4 out of 5.

Book Blurb

Life and a dismal last name are the only two things Beyah Grim’s parents ever gave her. After carving her path all on her own, Beyah is well on her way to bigger and better things, thanks to no one but herself. With only two short months separating her from the future she’s built and the past she desperately wants to leave behind, an unexpected death leaves Beyah with no place to go during the interim. Forced to reach out to her last resort, Beyah has to spend the remainder of her summer on a peninsula in Texas with a father she barely knows. Beyah’s plan is to keep her head down and let the summer slip by seamlessly, but her new neighbor Samson throws a wrench in that plan.Samson and Beyah have nothing in common on the surface. She comes from a life of poverty and neglect; he comes from a family of wealth and privilege. But one thing they do have in common is that they’re both drawn to sad things. Which means they’re drawn to each other. With an almost immediate connection too intense for them to continue denying, Beyah and Samson agree to stay in the shallow end of a summer fling. What Beyah doesn’t realize is that a rip current is coming, and it’s about to drag her heart out to sea.

      1. Apparently it’s a totally different fare from her usual works. I haven’t read any of her other books but of course YES, try to squeeze in Verity if you get a chance. I would love to know ur thoughts on that.
