I am blocked for words hence only 3 come to mind
Gripping!! Compelling!! Unputdownable!!
I read this book with my heart in my mouth, the premise was so scary. A normal bright morning, routine day at the nursery in London till 3 men in guns kidnap 9 children… And that means pure darkness for their parents. One of the kids has cystic fibrosis and needs regular medicines to survive.
The police are called with DCI Anna Tate at the helm. And it is a race against time to save the kids. Anna too has a personal crisis happening in the midst which closely resembles the present one.
I didn’t expect to enjoy this book by J. P. Carter as much as I did. I raced down the pages along with Anna, urging her to work faster. I liked how Carter’s writing brought an intense urgency in me to know the truth. Anna and her team thoroughly investigated every lead they had. Anna’s own search for her missing daughter was another mystery which piqued my interest.
Look, the story may give off this aura of previously read books, one might guess who was mastermind. But Carter’s writing has this mysterious pied-piper kind of quality to it that I couldn’t help but follow him down the alleys of the investigation. Cleverly using the theme of kidnapped children, 9 tiny tots at gunpoint from nursery, I found this quite a change from the usual tropes. Author J. P. Carter was a cool dude who knew which was the darkest and the most twisted lane to entice the readers till the very end.
I simply loved it. Read it between 12 to 3am
I received an ARC from NetGalley and publisher Avon Books UK, and this is my journey into its pages, straight from the heart!!

J. P. Carter is the pseudonym of a bestselling author who has also written sixteen books under the names Jaime and James Raven. Before becoming a full-time writer he spent a career in journalism as a newspaper reporter and television producer. He was, for a number of years, director of a major UK news division and co-owned a TV production company. He now splits his time between homes in Hampshire and Spain with his wife.
The first book in a stunning new crime series featuring DCI Anna Tate.
When nine children are snatched from a nursery school in South London, their distressed parents have no idea if they will ever see them again. The community in the surrounding area in shock.
But DCI Anna Tate knows that nothing is impossible, and she also knows that time is quickly running out. It’s unclear if the kidnappers are desperate for money or set on revenge, but the ransom is £6million daily. And they know that one little boy in particular is fighting for his life.
It’s one of the most disturbing cases DCI Anna Tate has ever worked on – not only because nine children are being held hostage, but because she’s pretty sure that someone close to them is lying…

Great, you can already tell from your review that there was a journalist with research experience at work here. Especially valuable for you, with your professional medical background. Thank you! Best wishes, Michael

Adding to my TBR list. The first three words did the magic.

Yayy Deepa thank you ❤️ I have been missing your posts. WordPress tells me that yours is a private blog.. Do I have to send a request..
I couldn’t see the cover reveal post.. I am confused with WordPress
Hey Shalini, I have recently moved to a wordpress.org and I have been posting regularly on it. Since the followers also have been migrated, I thought you would have got my post in your Reader. Wonder why that has not happened. Am also a little confused with WordPress.
I have posted the cover reveal with a link to your blog earlier today. Wonder what’s happening!!
I can’t see your blog at all…
Can you follow me again and then I can see if can unfollow and follow you back
Also please mail WordPress if others also have a problem.
For me, it says yours is a private account.
I am getting views and comments from WordPress followers Shalini . Lemme see how to fix it .
I couldn’t see the cover reveal nor could I comment on the reader
I could see you on the browser where readers would have to fill their email and website details everytime they comment, but from the app, there is no comment section and I couldn’t even see the cover reveal on app.
On the browser I could see the post but I didn’t find the buttons to share it on twitter. I didn’t get the ping back when you tagged me
Thank you for letting me know Shalini . I am working on it right now .
Deepa in that new site… There is no place for commenting on the reader… Kindly check
Pied Piper quality! An enthralling of a book that seems gripping and pacy, like the web series 🙂 Superbly reviewed!
Aww.. Thank you Vishal 😍💖
I thought I might could read this, but you use the words dark, scary, and twisted. It sounds like a good, well written tale—and too much for me!
The concept was dark and the reasons but there was no actual fear involved. I am sure you will like it 💖
