Happy Publication Day!!
The story started with a bang, it was more like a Whack!! A guillotine – The head separated from the body, blood drained out, and the headless corpse left behind on a boat. Something for the young rowers of Oxford to find on their early morning training. And the cops were called in. Kelly, the detective from America was asked to help.
My first book by author Claire Kittridge, and I was so enamored by Kelly. My eyes kept searching for her in the prose. Pages were quickly turned, and her sections were slowly savored. I loved Detective Kelly Moore from NYPD. She was everything I wanted to be. She oozed confidence; her form and attitude was spot on.
I loved the way the author had molded Kelly with the past history of a lost sister. She had a vested interest in her cases. Her intelligence was daunting, at least it was to her immediate senior DCI Bertram Pyke. Their personalities were a contrast, smooth to his abrasive attitude. Her friendship with DI Sam Joshi was a solid, girl bonding, rarely seen in a police procedural.
This was a different police procedural as it not only showed me the investigation taking place but also the story of a man roaming the streets, the Soldier, which had me quite intrigued to know how the author would link the two. Was he the murderer, my mind knocked?
As the story progressed, the events chilled me and the ending just stopped my breaths. Least expected. I had goosebumps. This was Kelly’s show through and through, and I loved everything about her in the book, could finish it over the afternoon.
I received a free ARC from the author and publisher, and this is my journey into its pages, straight from the heart!! STRICTLY HONEST AND UNBIASED.
All my reviews can be read here
Through the early-morning mist, a small boat floated toward him. A rower at rest, he thought. Adrift. But as the single scull eased closer, a harrowing image was seared into his mind.
NYPD Detective Kelly Moore is in Oxford getting some hard-earned rest, staying in a narrowboat on the Thames after solving the Priscilla Ames case in London. Jolted awake by the sound of sirens, Kelly finds herself on the scene of a gruesome murder and she can’t be kept off the case.
Against a backdrop of international terrorist threats, Kelly and her London partner DI Joshi team up with the local police to find a serial killer who leaves them chilling clues. All the while, Kelly searches for the trail of her sister Cass, missing now for the last nine years.
