I ran, I walked, I ran, then I walked… I kept to the shades in the lanes… I followed silently hoping to see…. I picked it up and let it go. A love obsessed, a love fatal, I saw some and I left some…
This has been my journey into Ronnie Turner’s book. Some words pulled me in so deep, some just frustrated me with its oblique meaning. Lots of pages made me re-read and some just made me give up. I was in dilemma after reading it. I couldn’t really make out if I liked it or not. I loved parts of it. I loved the pain of the father when the child was kidnapped. I loved the mystery surrounding it all.
The story was a child Bonnie kidnapped and the story told from three points of view, father in the present, a friend in the past, and a nurse in the future. I loved the maze that Ronnie had created with her debut. I loved her imagery, her byplay of words. Her alternating chapters tried to confuse me and made me want to waver. But I stood steadfast in my guesswork.
I would want to read more of the author’s work, her writing has the talent, there was a strange rhythm in her words, which kept my eyes locked to my kindle. But things kept niggling me enough in this book to keep me strictly in the middle.
I received an ARC from NetGalley and publisher HQ Digital, and this is my journey into its pages, straight from the heart!!

Three people, leading very different lives, are about to be brought together – with devastating consequences . . .
John has a perfect life, until the day his daughter goes missing.
Maisie cares for her patients, but hides her own traumatic past.
Miller should be an innocent child, but is obsessed with something he can’t have.
They all have something in common, though none of them know it – and the truth won’t stay hidden for long . . .

Nice review, Shalini. I can sense your mixed feelings about this book!
Thank you Stephen… I was swinging like a pendulum in this book
Short but coherent review. 🙂 I love reading your review Shalini. 🙂
Awww…. Lili you are pretty awesome ❤️
I’m sorry about the ambivalence you felt while reading this book, Shalini.
Some books are such that I am flitting from one end to the other…
Oooh Laurie, today I am not blocked for words
🥰
I don’t like it if i have to re-read passages. it made the book slow to read. Blurb is quite interesting. Great review!
Blurb was fab… Book had its moments… 😂
sounds like a love letter 😉
Hahaha 😂 true… I love him but he doesn’t love me back – that kinda love letter
Always appreciate your honest thoughts. Intriguing review!
Hey Holly.. Thank you 😍❤️
It seems like this book pulled you in for a bit and then lost you. Sorry it wasn’t a pull you in book from start to finish.
What an interesting and well thought-out review! I enjoyed Ronnie’s maze too, and I’m looking forward to more of her work!
Aww Meggy… That was a great compliment… I am blushing. 😍😍😘😘
Blush all you want, the compliment is deserved! 😀 x
I appreciate your honest reviews – don’t think this book is for me either
I don’t think so…. But then again… You might not get trapped in the maze😂
I almost feel your frustrations and enjoyment of this one from your review!
I wanted to love it… But I have to say book didn’t love me back… I had to re-read😂😂
Always such an odd feeling when I’m not sure if I liked a book!!! Great review, Shalini!
Thank you Mackie… I know… I was frustrated at my kindle
Another great review Shalini. I have never read anything by this author, interesting. I hope you have a great weekend honey. 😉
Debut book… She has her blog too.. She is very sweet
Have a great weekend.. Enjoy😍
I am always sold to byplay of words. You do the same with the start of the review, lending your personal touching and writing in an innovative manner. This individual style stands out Shalini 🙂
Thank you so much Vishal… I can write some days… Sachi… Most day I only have 2 words ‘meh’ 😖 or ‘wow’
So sad it wasn’t better but three stars isn’t too bad, right? I find books that are neither great nor horrible the most difficult to review but you did a great job here.
Thank you so much ❤️ and I agree.. I kept having good and bad moments in this book.
Great review! Always easy to read and enjoyable to my ear…
ah, maybe some reviews are better than the books.
Aww… You are stealing my heart aren’t you 😍😍♥️♥️ thank you so much..
Your words in your book would be better than any of ours
💙💙💙
Brave, well written review. This book sounds like quite a puzzle!
Yp kept me puzzled in parts..
Sometimes a review that is a result of enjoyment-frustration-enjoyment makes me want to read that book even more just to see if it will affect me the same way.
Very true… In fact, I love books which have mixed reviews, the curiosity to know what I would feel makes me pick up that book. I wish more authors realized that, instead of getting angry over negative reviews
As always, I love your honesty reviews! Sometimes it’s hard as a reviewer to review books that we didn’t really enjoy or those that we aren’t so sure about 😅
Awwwn, it almost sounded so perfect until you mentioned “niggling” in there. I knew it wasn’t going to get a perfect score then. 😛 Great review, Shalini!
Hahaha my niggles are getting their share of attention.. 😂 😂
Thank you Lashaan
ooh, another great review! so i think i can understand why you were fence sitting. sorry it didn’t work for you, but it wouldn’t have for me either.
Thank you so much Gin😍😘
Love the well explaining review, too. A story told of different view is a challenge to read. Michael
True that Michael
Have a nice weekend, Shalini! Thank you for the great reviews! Michael
Have a fab weekend too, Michael…
