I was quite intrigued by the blurb, year 1 in the life of a student midwifery. Author JE Rowney was earnest in her writing, portraying every scene with the emotion that it needed.
Violet and best friend Zoé went to the same university together and shared the same flat along with a third person, Luke. This book was Violet’s story and her victory over her mind-numbing anxiety attacks.
It was wonderful to see Vi embark on her dream and absolutely heart wrenching to see anxiety paralyze her brain, leading her to the point of almost failing in her courses. The teachers were strict yet quite understanding. I liked how the medical fraternity was shown.
Violet learning the aspects of examining a pregnant woman reminded me of my days of studies and internship. It was quite nostalgic in some ways.
Friendship was emboldened in the story; there was so much support and love between Vi and Zoé. I was almost jealous. I too wanted that.
A light read which had a poignant message behind it, the author celebrated not only Violet passing her year 1 but also overcoming her anxiety and panic attacks.
Quite an inspiring evening read.
I received a free ARC from the author, and this is my journey into its pages, straight from the heart!! STRICTLY HONEST AND UNBIASED.

Thanks for the review, Shalini. I’m sure a lot of people with anxiety issues would be happy to read this book.
Midwives aren’t all that common in the US. Shudder… I would hate that job, I hate seeing any creature in pain!
Inspiring and nostalgic? That sounds nice. I’m glad to hear that you were able to enjoy this one too! Great review! 😀
