Many thanks to Rachel and Rachel’s Random Resources for my spot on this Blog Tour.

This was absolutely not my genre for reading. I skim read the book as it reminded me of a movie I saw years ago with my family.

The story foretold about a football team Sabina Park Rangers, set in 1981, with the players being all of Carribean background, where the coach Horace McIntosh had great ambitions for the young men under him.

My first book by Ralph Robb, it was quite enlightening to read about the discriminations the young players had to go through. They not only had to deal with the problems at home but a lot of their problems came from the rivalry between each other. With so many things against them, the whole story was — would the team reach the finals?

The author knew what he was writing about. He kept his writing authentic to both the times it was set in and the dialect of these players. Each player and his situation was well explained, along with their interpersonal politics.

A book recommended for readers who like this genre where there was a thrill along with the inner workings of a game and its players.

I received a free ARC from Rachel and the author, and this is my journey into its pages, straight from the heart!! STRICTLY HONEST AND UNBIASED.

Ralph Robb was born and raised in the industrial town of Wolverhampton, England, and now lives in Ontario, Canada with his wife, two cats and a dog. A proud father of four, Robb works as an engineering technician and loves rugby, martial arts and of course a good book. His world is balanced by his obsession with comic books, quality TV, global events and the great outdoors.

Sabina Park Rangers is the first team of black players to reach the final of the Watney’s Challenge Cup. But coach Horace McIntosh has more selection problems than most. The First Division champions want to sign one of his best players – and right up until the day of the match he is uncertain that he will have a team for the biggest game in the club’s history because of arrests, a scam and an atmosphere of impending violence.

  1. I think your review is fair and reflective of your lack of interest in sports. I read outside my primary interests occasionally too. I think it enriches me and balances me—even if it is not my favorite thing to do. So kudos for stepping outside the thriller mode.

  2. Hi Shalini – I would like to thank you all again, for taking the time to review my book ‘More Than A Game’.
I’d like to turn your attention to a Podcast that discusses the contents of the book, you might find interesting.
