My Review
The story had pathos and feelings. A family broken over a tragedy. Now with the father dead, Evie was back home for the funeral. Ethan too was released from the prison. The family came together where Ethan protested his innocence. Evie was unsure. There was a bit of amnesia at play.
My second book by author Jennifer Harvey was engaging as it dealt with changing family dynamics where truth felt to be lie. The story was more emotionally charged as compared to other thrillers. The mystery of the past kept me moving forward. Guilt and grief both were woven well into the character of Evie.
Told in dual time lines, there were secrets buried awaiting their release. The writing meandered but soon came on track. With very few characters, the final reveal to which the story was building up to was easily surmised.
Overall, the book was an entertaining read that kept me going on a lazy afternoon.

Book Blurb
No-one confesses to a murder they didn’t commit.
It has been twenty years since I last saw my brother. The day he was taken away for killing the boy I loved. I honestly didn’t think I would see him again. Until now…
I never made my peace with the fact my brother was a killer. But at least I don’t think about it every minute of every day any more. Or about the boy he killed. The boy I kissed in a private, sheltered spot down by the lake during that long, hot summer, before everything changed.
Now he has come home and claims he is innocent of the crime he was convicted of.
I saw the blood on his hands. Heard him enter the guilty plea.
I can’t believe what he’s saying could possibly be true. How can the last twenty years have all been a lie? What made him confess, if he wasn’t guilty? Although, just for a moment, I see something in his eyes that reminds me of everything we used to be. Don’t I owe it to us to finally learn the truth?
But there are some people in our town who won’t want us digging up the past. And I know, more than anyone, what a dangerous thing the truth can be.

I couldn’t agree more. I read it few days ago and will definitely read more from this author.
I would be feeling all smug for solving the mystery 😉
Woohoo have you read it?
Thank you very much, for another great review, Shalini! I will put this on my TBR, because it sounds like a many twists in it, and important questions need to be answered. I apologize for the delay in revisiting, hope you are well and stay save. Best wishes, and enjoy the weekend! Michael
You always know what to say to make me want to read a book! xx
It doesn’t have to be the best book out there to be an enjoyable way to spend an afternoon. It sounds like a good choice for that.
I agree. Some times I need just comfortable books where I can perhaps not need to concentrate so much as I usually do
I have to admit that I enjoy dual timelines when it’s done well.
