I requested for this medical thriller as this genre has been my first love… Ahem.. Ahem…for reasons some of you already know. I wouldn’t say the book was as good as Robin Cook, but it does try to spin a good tale infusing the prose with suspense within a hosoital scenario.

The story went thus, a research student Jay came to the ER with gastric problems which soon converted to cardiac complications, and he had to be shocked multiple times. There was something wrong with his heart rhythm which didn’t really go with any of the known medications or recreational drugs till something clicked in the mind of the intensivist Dr Cassie.

On the other hand, Jay’s friend, Autumn investigated certain aspects of his study, and made few shocking discoveries even with the threats to her life.

My first book by Dr Dawn Sherling had me stuck to my kindle. The intrigue and suspense had me turning pages faster. I too wanted to know what had gone wrong with Jay. I could only shake my head sadly at the conclusion how greed has entered into this supposedly noble field. There were a lot of medical terms, procedures, some were detailed explanations about the different electrolyte channels of the heart. Confused? I was too, it reminded me too much of my text books and exams.

Overall a great mystery revealed at the end, I enjoyed the suspense as well as the procedures. Hahaha I got transported to my lecture halls. 😉😂

I received an ARC from NetGalley and publisher, and this is my journey into its pages, straight from the heart!!

Doctor Autumn Johnson is convinced that someone wants the promising young researcher, Jay Abrams, dead. And as a newly minted medical intern, Autumn tries to outsmart death on behalf of her patients every day. But she just can’t seem to get it right. Not knowing the answers her residents expect her to, prescribing the wrong meds, and nearly passing out as a patient is wheeled into the ICU—is not how she had pictured herself as a physician. Determined to do better, Autumn decides to prove someone tried to kill Jay. When the trail leads her to Jay’s mysterious notes, Autumn has little time to discover who wants Jay, and now her, dead. With the help of the only other intern she can call a friend and a self-destructive perfectionist for a supervising resident, Autumn will have to solve a mystery that reaches deep inside the medical establishment, threatening us all.
