Happy Publication Day!!

An absolutely chilling story with a crazy twist which had me cackling out loudly at the wicked mind of the author Sarah A. Denzil, a mind which could think of using the darkness residing in the depths of a human mind as the means of a wicked manipulation.

With thrillers abounding the literary scene, it takes a brilliant story to make me go Whoa, and this one filled me with a dark joy at the number of twists. A daughter’s suicide and a mother’s pain both form the arc of the plot, and as per the norm, the mother does not believe and investigates.

But what changed everything for me was the rushing cold fury and determination that filled the mother Kat’s veins, someone who had been termed antisocial and unemotional by the therapist. It almost felt like a wounded lioness who was ready to take on the world to get to the truth!! I love such characters. The only niggle I had was there was a clear clue, and the main character acknowledged it, yet didn’t investigate it.

Surprisingly, the darker the lanes of the book, the more I am filled with joy. And this book had different shades of darkness to make me dance in its shadows!!

I received an ARC from NetGalley and publisher Bookouture, and this is my journey into its pages, straight from the heart!!

‘Your daughter is dead.’

When Kat Cavanaugh hears the words every mother dreads, her perfect world shatters. She takes in the beautiful long blonde hair, torn yellow dress and chipped blue nail-varnish. It can’t be real.

And then the police add the word ‘suicide’. But Kat refuses to believe them.

Even when they show her the familiar looping handwriting and smudged ink on the note her little girl left behind. She knows her bubbly, vivacious daughter would never take her own life.

As she searches Grace’s perfume-scented room, filled with smiling photos, she uncovers secrets her daughter had been hiding. Secrets that make her wonder how well she really knew the woman her only child was becoming.

Kat’s determined to find out what really happened to Grace on the night she died, even if it means facing her own troubled past. But as she gets closer to the terrible truth, Kat finds herself faced with an unthinkable question: there was no way she could have protected Grace – or was there?

  1. Awesome review, Shalini. Glad we both enjoyed it. I like how you described Kat as a wounded lioness. That truly captures her character in this story.

  2. Wonderful review and loved this. “Surprisingly, the darker the lanes of the book, the more I am filled with joy. And this book had different shades of darkness to make me dance in its shadows!!

    1. Yayy thank you… It shocks me when I re read my lines…
Because after every book my mind says only 3 things – this was crap, this was wow, this was okay…
So when I read my own lines, I am like – when did this happen? 😂 😂

  3. Great review Shalini. I love the cover of this one as well. I have read so many great reviews with high ratings so will have to find this one.
