Digital Reads Blog Tours presents author Toni Cox with her new book Resilient

The blurb said horror, and my thriller-y heart said – let’s read it. And I was so happy, almost in bliss when a virus outbreak killed everyone in the country barring a few survivors. Erika had flu, was in bed for 2 days in agony, and when she got up, her life had changed. She was the sole survivor of the outbreak which took her parents and loved ones away. Till she found a few good survivors and some not so good ones…. Or should I say something else was prowling the streets.

My first book by author Toni Cox had my heart pounding so hard that I felt it would jump out in terror as I read the book. Some of the moments of the struggle to survive caught me by chains. I couldn’t seem to let go of my kindle. Erika’s pain when she buried her parents had my eyes misting over. This was Erika’s story completely, and it kept me totally engrossed, the way she survived it all. Make no mistake, it is a thriller with some friends, some bad guys, and many bad things. But at the heart of it all, there was only – PURE COURAGE.

The only teeny tiny niggle I could say was that the beginning was a bit slow and had some brand names I knew nothing about. But those were minor stuff and takes nothing away from the story.

At 160 pages, it was a fun, fast read. And I loved it completely… Any book which can make my pulse spike with excitement is a thriller indeed.

I downloaded the digital version of the book from Kindle Unlimited, and this is my journey into its pages, straight from the heart!!

Born in Germany in 1976, Toni Cox moved to South Africa in 1991. Although she has spent much of her working career in the timber wholesale business, she is also an accomplished horse rider, has a diploma in project management, photography, and nutrition, and has a passion for books and all things fantasy.

From a young age, her dream had always been to put her imagination into words – give the stories life. When she was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis in 2013, she decided life is too short not to follow her dream. So, with the support of her husband and three children, she began writing book 1 of the Elemental Trilogy in January 2015.

Toni Cox writes Epic Fantasy, Young Adult Fantasy, Sci-Fi Fantasy, Urban Fantasy, Dystopian Fantasy, and Dark Fantasy. She is a firm believer in dragons.

The outbreak of the S1 Virus in China is breaking news all over the globe – it is killing apes by the hundreds.

Erika, who has a pretty good life in Johannesburg, South Africa, is little concerned with wildlife disasters so far away.

But when Erika falls ill and is bedridden for a couple of days, the world is not as she left it.

An empty city greets her the day she sets foot outside her door. Abandoned cars, a creepy silence, and hollow-eyed corpses is all she finds.

Alone, frightened, and heartbroken, she must now find a way to survive this apocalyptic world she has woken up to. Does she have the will, the strength, and the ingenuity to survive?

Against all odds she has one thing going for her – she’s resilient.

  1. Brilliant review, Shalini! I already got the book from reading Lili’s post but your review made me want to read it ASAP!

    1. I get scared of paranormal ghostly stuff… Apparently I like reading about them but can’t see TV series or movies about it

  2. That cover would have made me walk right past this book. However, your review has me convinced that I might enjoy it too. I like how you were excited about the virus killing almost everyone 😀 #Dark. Glad you enjoyed this one so much despite the slow start.

    1. It wasn’t a slow start per se but it more of a laying down of the character foundation. I was probably in a hurry to get to the virus
