Madison Knight had balls of steel!!

And pardon my French. But this was the thought that flowed through my mind as I read the book. Detective Madison Knight had more courage in her little finger than most guys had all together in her department.

Twin murders occurred, and the good Detective was called to investigate. Learning one of them was the wife of Steven Malone and the other a John Doe, Madison had her work cut out for her, and her hands bound by rules, courtesy her boss, as Steven Malone was the biggest contributor to the police department. But she had murders to solve. And where she was, so was I.

My first book by Carolyn Arnold, though it was the ninth in the series, I enjoyed it immensely, savoured every word written. There was the pure undiluted rush that a mystery and investigation brought to the story, with snippets of past cases and a personal life well shown.

I didn’t know Madison, when I started reading, but I got to love her by the time I finished reading the book. She reminded me of ME. Her dedication to her job, her belief in her profession that cops were to protect and serve, her loyalty, her self-righteousness, her need for justice, everything caught my attention. There are very few characters with whom I can fall in love at first word, and she was one of them. All the credit for that goes to the author.

The story followed its various twists and turns, some were shocking reveals and some connected to the past. The only niggle I had was that I felt the ending was rushed, I wanted to feel the same high I was in throughout the book. My addiction was cut short. Damn!! 😂

I hope to get to her other books one day, and this can surely be read as a standalone because the past mentioned was easy to understand. And come on, it was a murder mystery. What’s not to love about it!

I received a free ARC from NetGalley and publisher, and this is my journey into its pages, straight from the heart!! STRICTLY HONEST AND UNBIASED.

The line between good and evil isn’t always clear…

Detective Madison Knight has risked her badge—and her life—in the pursuit of justice before, and she just might need to do so again. Two victims are found murdered and naked in the home of Steven Malone, who is the largest contributor to the Stiles PD. One victim is his wife. The other victim is a John Doe. This high-profile double homicide immediately pits Madison against her sergeant, who seems more intent on protecting the Malones’ reputation and retaining a benefactor than catching a killer.

Madison will need to pull on her tenacity and courage if she’s going to follow the evidence without prejudice. In the process, it becomes clear that finding justice isn’t always black and white, and often the shades in between tell the fullest story—and it’s not something she will forget anytime soon.

  1. Great review Shalini. I have three of the earlier books in this series on my Kindle, but had not read them. After reading this review, I think it is time. I love female law enforcement personnel that have balls, so I will love this character. I have #1, 3, and 4.

  2. Lol…I hate it when addictions get cut short! 😂 Seriously though, I have said this many times, but man you are really on a streak right now! So many good books! Awesome! 😊😘
