Many thanks to Rachel and Rachel’s Random Resources for my spot on this Blog Tour.
This was a Murder mystery, pure and simple, at its core. The author Catherine Fearns has chosen a unique weapon, THE SOUND. It was so fascinating to read the way the author had used one of the senses to kill the victims with her writing.
The air in the city was hanging, a SOUND was plaguing the minds of the people. For some like the professors, it caused death unknown and with head splattered. In a certain part of town people were falling sick. Addiction was seen in clubs to SOUND. The professor had recorded a sound which seemed like it was being played backward. I remembered the rumors surrounding Hotel California by The Eagles, which was said to be the song for calling Satan.
DI Darren Swift was the lead investigator. The old team was back, for me, they were all new. I loved the camaraderie between the lead of the metal band Mikko Kristensen and the former nun turned occult specialist Dr. Helen Hope. The race to get to the murderer was ticking away like a SOUND bomb.
My first book by this author, and I was blown away by the uniqueness of the writing. The characters were someone I would have never put together but they melded beautifully. The author made them work. There was a genuine caring between them. Having not read the previous two books, I liked that the characters welcomed me, I didn’t feel alienated.
Darren was interesting, he had lost his fiancé, yet pulled himself together to investigate. Hope and Mikko did their bits to help him get to the murderer.
I knew about ultrasound waves used in medicine, it was fun to read about sound being used as a weapon to kill. There had been studies going on decades ago that sound waves caused unknown nose bleeds. So I liked how the author went a step further and created an aura of darkness where SOUND was the only thing striking the people. Absolute enthralling!!
I received a free ARC from Rachel and the author, and this is my journey into its pages, straight from the heart!! STRICTLY HONEST AND UNBIASED.

Can you hear it?
A professor of psychoacoustics is found dead in his office. It appears to be a heart attack, until a second acoustician dies a few days later in similar circumstances.
Meanwhile, there’s an outbreak of mysterious illnesses on a council estate, and outbursts of unexplained violence in a city centre nightclub. Not to mention strange noises coming from the tunnels underneath Liverpool. Can it really be a coincidence that death metal band Total Depravity are back in the city, waging their own form of sonic warfare?
Detective Inspector Darren Swift is convinced there are connections. Still grieving his fiancé’s death and sworn to revenge, he is thrown back into action on the trail of a murderer with a terrifying and undetectable weapon.
But this case cannot be solved using conventional detective work, and D.I. Swift will need to put the rulebook aside and seek the occult expertise of Dr. Helen Hope and her unlikely sidekick, guitarist Mikko Kristensen.
