MY REVIEW
The story had a locked room suspense to it where 5 friends met after 5 years and start dying one by one. Someone had drawn a bull’s eye on their backs.
Author Laura Wolfe’s writing was hooking. With 6 characters, I knew it had to be one of them. But who? The whole story was more about the motive than the perp, at least for me. That made me turn the pages faster.
I liked the sense of danger and desperation layering the scenes. There was always a need to look over the shoulder. With them in the middle of nowhere with no internet or mobile network in a ramshackle lake house, the claustrophobic feel to the story soon set in.
I got to know all the friends, but the story was told mainly from the POV of one. The vibe of the plotline may seem familiar, the macabre aura wasn’t. Fast paced and engrossing the book was, no doubt, but I had to laugh at the motive.
A fun afternoon…

You can always trust your closest friends. Can’t you?
This trip was a chance to reconnect away from our busy lives. The five of us used to be so close—going right back to our college days, when we shared a rickety house and all our favorite clothes, as well as every high and low of our lives—but that was then.
Now, the thought of three days in a small cabin far from anywhere, surrounded only by water and trees, with my four oldest friends makes my stomach sink and my hands sweat. Because if they knew what I’d done—the betrayals I’ve committed—they’d never forgive me. And neither would you.
The straight-A student, the sports star with a bright future ahead of her, the sheltered girl who blossomed away from her family and the hippie child who was going to save the world. Their lives have turned out so differently to how we pictured all those years ago. I try not to think about why.
But then danger strikes, and too late I discover I’m not the only one keeping secrets. And I wonder: who will go furthest to keep the truth hidden?

Locked room mysteries seem to be on the trend now. Good review 👍
I like this trope
I love your definition of fun Shalini. Wonderful review.
The motive was so far out there that I had to laugh. The suspense became super weird as many things became the reason for the murders.
