MY REVIEW
The book started off with the cops informing Mia about the death of her ex-husband Rob. Then came the present wife of the ex, Rachel, her father, then a letter from her mother, in fact, Rachel’s entire family came to Mia’s doorstep, asking for her help. I wondered why. Was it because she was the one that got away.
The story was told from Mia’s POV in dual timelines. The past bespoke of her time with Rob, which was far more interesting as it showed me how Rob eroded her confidence and made her lesser than herself. The present time showed me that she had a secret that she was hiding from the cops which was dragged until the last few pages.
The writing was good, suspense could have been sprinkled uniformly in the prose. This was quite slow paced and many a time, I wanted to ask Mia to run away. Rob was a typical smooth operator, the forked tongue who could make any woman fall for him with his charm. Mia tried hard to gain my support and sympathy. Never understood the rest of the characters. There was just so much of anger and bitterness amongst them. Better motives for every character might have made it far more interesting.
Overall, it was a good tale but quite familiar as many have been done on the same lines.

Mia thinks she has escaped her controlling ex-husband, Rob. She’s found herself a new home, a new boyfriend and a new life. But when the police arrive to tell her that Rob has been found dead on his boat, things quickly fall apart. Mia is terrified she’ll be suspected, however the police are keeping all options open. They know Mia had reason to hate her ex-husband, but she’s not the only one. Plenty of people wanted Rob Creavy dead, not least his new wife, Rachel. What they don’t know is that Mia has a secret, one she’s desperate to protect. But someone else knows. Someone with very dark secrets of their own . . .

great review, Shalini…critical in a good positive way…
The premise is good; I’m sorry the execution was lacking.
