I have had this book on my kindle since ages, hence I decided to get to it. Scarlett and Shannon are best of friends and run a business together of dog walking. Scarlett is a dog behavioral therapist, and boy, she did meet some interesting clients and their dogs. Rufus and Scarlett were trying to get pregnant when infertility hit them and in that stress, the dufus of a husband utters friend Shannon’s name at the wrong moment! Yikes!!

My first book by Lily Bartlett, I had fun reading most parts of it. Trials and frustrations of infertility were well described. On-time sex was fun to read but poor Rufus. I could understand his turmoil, but calling out another woman’s name was still a NO-NO. The whole book was a rom-com, I loved the interpretations of the dogs’ expressions.

Then came my niggles, the main storyline came later, after more than 50%. I needed more of the story with the main characters than of clients and dogs. Though I do think this would make a great movie. This is one of the books that would be more delightful visually than reading it. Seeing the dog’s expressions rather than reading would be cuter, methinks.

Overall, a fun read

I downloaded a digital copy of the book from Kindle Unlimited, and this is my journey into its pages, straight from the heart!!

Four little words, uttered by her husband…
‘Oh my god,’ he gasped into her shoulder. ‘Shannon!’
There’s just one problem: her name isn’t Shannon.

Rewind six months and Scarlett and Rufus aren’t in the honeymoon stage anymore so much as the honey-should-we-bother phase. Desperate to get their sparkle back, Scarlett has plotted, planned and waxed more than any woman should have to, but none of it is working. Which makes it very hard to start the family they want.

At least her business is going strong, even if her marriage isn’t. She and her best friend spend their days tangled up in dog leads and covered in fur. Scarlett is the fairy dogmother, training hopeless pets like compulsive eater Barkley, impulsive Romeo Murphy and bossy Biscuit. Meanwhile, her best friend walks the dogs and pines for the man who doesn’t know she exists. Thank goodness the women have each other.

If only Scarlett could work out how to get her marriage back on track. But Rufus isn’t sharing his feelings with her. He is, though, sharing with her best friend. Her best friend, Shannon.

  1. I was reading your review and definitely picturing it as a movie. I agree sounds like it would make a good movie and I’d especially enjoy some of those client side stories!

  2. Shucks, sorry you didn’t enjoy it, I thought it was funny, although I could have done without the repetitive baby obsession

          1. All I need is a kill bill kinda book. My friend betrayed me so I need such a book where I can be Uma Thurman

      1. Are you sick? I hope not but it is odd indeed. I can’t imagine you not reading anything for a full week. Lol. Enjoy your weekend. 😉

        1. I have read one and half book the whole week. I got betrayed by a friend, so that put me into a shock. I have been very listless😩 Sometimes humanity sucks 😖

          1. Sorry to hear about that. It leaves an awful feeling when we are betrayed by a friend. Wish I could take you for lunch and make you laugh a little. Take care Shalini. Hugs.

  3. Nice review Shalini. I have to agree with you, books about and with dogs are much more enjoyable when watched, rather than read.

  4. Awesome review Shalini! Yikes! Calling another woman’s name, damn dude 😅. It does sound like a fun read, I agree it would be better visually, I totally would prefer to see those fur-faces on screen. 😊

  5. Yikes on the wrong name calling and especially for a couple in their situation. Damn, that is just wrong. I can see why this one sounded like it would be ever better as a movie especially due to the dogs. Fab review, Shalini.

  6. Oh no, it sounds like it should be so good. It’s hard to get those doggie scenes just right in a book. I’ve only known a few authors who really could pull it off well. I’m sorry it wasn’t as good as it could have been.
