Happy Publication Day!!
I picked up this book as the blurb was exciting. I knew where the plot would go. A naive young woman barely out of her teens and a sophisticated world-wise professor!! You know what happens next!! The two got together, slowly and steadily with him taking charge and protecting her. They lived together soon, had a child, and soon he started changing, getting angrier with a night and day personality. And the truth was revealed first with notes, then in her baby getting kidnapped, and then by various people. What would she do now?
Author S. E. Lynes is now very good at writing psychological thrillers. She maintained the tension in places where required. The initial half started slow, laying down the foundation which niggled me as I wanted the thriller to read faster. But the book changed at exactly mid-half with the plot revealed, the pace doubled up, and the main character more pro-active when she was a shriveled lily in the first half. Few twists at strategic points made the book a fun, fast read.
I received an ARC from NetGalley, and this is my journey into its pages, straight from the heart.

Samantha Frayn doesn’t know why Peter Bridges picks her – a nobody with bitten fingernails and a troubled childhood behind her – but she falls quickly. He’s older, charming, likes fine wine and French films, and his beautiful home has real art on its walls.
Peter transforms Samantha’s life in an instant. He sees the better version of herself – the one she’s always wanted to be. It’s only normal that there’s a little friction, when she moves in, over domestic matters like where things are kept, or the proper times to eat, sleep and shower. She’s lucky to be with someone who can help her find a new job, move on from childish friends, and speak with greater sophistication.
But as Samantha notices, more and more, Peter’s temper, she starts to wonder if there might be consequences to breaking the rules of the world he has so quickly built around her.
And then she receives an anonymous note that makes her ask: is she the first woman to feel trapped by Peter? Is she being paranoid, manipulated, or could she be in danger?

I always find that British thrillers have a slower first half and a wild second half! This sounds so good—love your review, Shalini!
Oh that is a good point. I didn’t note that. Maybe that’s the way they build up the story. Thank you so much. I will keep that in mind for future books
I think I enjoyed this one a little more than you but I am glad that you still had fun with it. Great review.
I saw that. I liked the book but it was the same arc. I didnt find anything new in this so my heart rate remained the same 🤷♀️
Always love a good, fast read! <3

Fab review! A shame about the slow start, but I’m glad things picked up in the second half.
I agree, fun book. I heard British books have that, they start slow finish strong
Couldn’t he just have been a nice guy??? And they could have lived happily ever after??? And then we would change this from suspense to romance 😉 Lol
With ripping bodice? And some shape-shifting?
Yayy my book is having sex with yours 😂😂 minimal sleep brain slow… Going back to sleep before I write more rubbish
Oh goodness. I don’t think there’s enough sleep in your lifetime to help 😂😂😂

Good review. I hope I don’t spend the rest of the night creating my own ending to the story.
