MY REVIEW
HOLD YOUR HORSES!! START THE DRUMROLL!! There is a new mischief monger in town, and she ain’t stopping. Spoiler alert. I am revealing the major twist in this story. It was none other than author Sheryl Browne, who took wicked pleasure in putting all her characters in a twist. She was evil. Beware!!
I love nothing more than great gossip, the best way to distract my stressed mind, and Sheryl gave me that in spades. The story was about a husband-wife duo who worked at the local practice where Jake was the practicing doctor, called out for medical emergencies and Emily, the practice manager, who was conscientious about data protection. You see, everyone’s medical secrets was locked in the tiny computer at the reception.
Emily got a mail about Jake’s extracurricular activities, soon others in town started getting the ‘informative’ cards. Life as the small town knew it got disrupted, and fingers were pointed. To Emily.
Now we all knew that Sheryl was the real prankster who worked in the shadows, but she had already thought out her escape route. My mind pondered. Whom would the author have thrown under the bus to cast all suspicion off her?
The book began with a loud bang where Emily kept doubting Jake’s fidelity, based on an email, and with many others on the same rampage run, my mind zinged furiously as to who could be the perp.
Emily too had many secrets hidden about the death of her twin years ago. I would have thought the town was a peaceful and quiet place with happy people. Who knew that there was bitterness festering underground?!
The lack of communication between husband and wife frustrated me completely. I hated Emily and her accusations which came in every other page. Reasons came to light much later on.
The story read superfast; I swear the morning just flew with my fingers tapping the kindle screen. There was nothing more wonderful that reading about those hidden truths, though they did have many far-reaching consequences.
But never fear, Sheryl kept all her characters on a firm leash. In fact, she yanked all their chains, especially in the last few chapters. The poor things didn’t know the heart that was writing the story had no mercy. Evil was all that flowed from the ink of this thriller.
By the end of the read, I couldn’t comment about about the characters, but I was overwrought. Even the epilogue had me scrutinizing it with suspicion. Never had I read the book where every single person had a secret. Whew… I need a cozy read next…

Emily and Jake are the perfect couple. Or so everyone says. But Emily just read a letter that has shattered her perfect world. Now she only has one thing on her mind… which one of her friends is sleeping with her husband?
Emily watches Jake as he makes small talk with their children, still the perfect man she married years ago. But when the phone rings and he answers before quickly putting it down again, she sees the look on her husband’s face – guilt. She knows the signs – after all, she’s been lying to him for years.
Working with Jake at the local doctor’s surgery, Emily starts to listen at closed doors and read things she shouldn’t, hoping to find the truth about her husband. Soon she learns that hers isn’t the only family telling lies to each other. Is there anyone Emily can trust? And who is behind the letter to Jake?
When a second letter, revealing a wife’s hidden pregnancy, is sent to the woman’s husband, it has disastrous consequences. And as more angry letters revealing people’s biggest secrets begin to appear, fingers point at Emily. After all, she’s the one with access to everyone’s private history, and she’s the one with a score to settle. Emily says she didn’t do it. But this isn’t the first time Emily has lied. What happens next will have you questioning everything…
You might have already decided that Emily is guilty, but as each twist is revealed, you’ll begin to doubt everyone in this quiet little town.
