Many thanks to Emma and damppebbles blog tours for my spot on this Blog Tour.
Voodoo and revenge make the best combination and when an author puts them together to be used against a slimy, conniving husband, she has a fan in me. Rachel Ellyn has done it!! Given me a story that had me rooting for the main character as she used all her wiles and wits to teach her louse of an ex-husband a lesson.
Alice had been served the divorce notice over dinner. The ink was barely dry, but her bank accounts were completely flushed when she took her husband to the cleaners, she decided to treat herself to a holiday. Everyone at the hotel knew what she wanted which led her to a trinket shop to help clear her bad juju. And soon she had the power!!
My first book by author Rachel Ellyn, the author’s writing kept me laughing with a wicked glee right through the book. I identified with the main character as oft times I too wanted to take the same kind of revenge. The book had its twists when the ex used his underhand lawer-y moves.
My niggles popped in the midst, I wanted more depth to the story, some parts felt rushed and incomplete. But the story was basically about emotions, hence I enjoyed it.
I could feel Alice’s hurt deeply when she was served the divorce papers after nearly 30 years of marriage. I could feel her jealousy when the new girlfriend became the child-bride. I could see the light shine on her when she realized how her husband had subtly abused her over the years. And I could feel her justification when fate took her by hand and opened up opportunities of revenge. Yet, her core goodness to shone through.
A short book at 120 pages, it was a fast, fun read. Perfect during dinner.
I received a free ARC from Emma and the author, and this is my journey into its pages, straight from the heart!! STRICTLY HONEST AND UNBIASED.

Alice has been playing the perfect Southern wife for over twenty-five years. So when Bob dumps her for some blonde bimbo twenty years her junior, Alice figures she’s entitled to every dollar she can bleed from him. And, once she’s got the money, she’s entitled to use it on a much-needed vacation to Nanm Paradi, a Caribbean resort that sells itself as her “soul’s paradise”.
She’s never experienced anything as luxurious as Nanm Paradi. The staff know her every desire and cater to her every need before she even knows she needs it. She figures this is how the really rich live and she’s ready to take advantage of all of it–the fabulous drinks, the beautiful views, and the handsome men. And when she discovers that voodoo magic is also on offer… well, Bob hurt her bad. She can take some time away from paradise to exact a little pain. Alice would have been happy to leave things at that.
But when she gets hit where it hurts–her bank account–Alice’s game changes. It’s no longer about post-divorce romance. Now it’s about revenge.
