My Review
This was a different read where love transcended all realms, and it took one special mortal to go beyond what others could to save his wife’s legacy. Nesta was one such human who wanted to save the people of Havilah with whom Camila was most connected to, and Isaiah J. Marshall was the author who captured him in the pages of the book.
This was the author’s debut, and it was intense. I liked how the main character Nesta was etched. He was bold and romantic and quite dedicated to his wife. I didn’t really agree to his ways, but I had to admit, there was love at the back of it.
There was mystery and action along with shades of paranormal when a spectre appeared in his life. Was it really Camila’s ghost or was Nesta losing his mind? The story progressed down the twin plotline where Nesta had to become a soldier to defend when the Devils attacked his town, and there was the unfinished love story with his wife.
The story had many poignant conversations along with intense action so it was balanced. Then came my niggles. It was slow and sometimes past and present were interweaved so I had to concentrate. I don’t like too much of introspection in my books as I do enough in my life. Sharper prose would have uplifted it.
Overall, I felt the story had depth, and the author could transform his thoughts to words, building up complexities in his characters to make this an interesting literary fiction.

Book Blurb
Camila, Nesta’s true love, was murdered five years ago by the drunkard Arthur Yankee. After avenging the death of his wife, Nesta thought that his mourning would finally be behind him. Then the fog of vengeance began to dissipate, and with his vision clear, Nesta was able to make out a clear picture before him, and what he saw… was Camila herself.
The morning after Nesta killed Arthur Yankee, a specter in the form of his late wife started following, condemning, and teaching Nesta. Most would say that Nesta had gone crazy, but there are the few that would just call this good timing because Nesta needs his wife now more than ever, hallucination or ghost.
A gang of Devils have begun to move in on his hometown of Havilah, Mississippi, and their leader Thomas Moore has a personal mission he needs to accomplish. Nesta must now protect Havilah, which is Camila’s legacy; all while trying to get rid of this ghost that is haunting him… Or should he, it must’ve been nice to see her again.
