My review
This was the book blurb
On the afternoon of Nick and Lisa’s wedding, their close friend is found poised on a hotel window ledge, ready to jump.
As the shock hits their friendship group, they soon realise that none of them are being as honest with themselves – or with each other – as they think.
And there are secrets lurking that could destroy everything.
After reading such a synopsis, I couldn’t help but pick up the book..
But as the learned have said, do not judge a book by its cover, I say do not judge a story by its blurb. Thus book took me 15 days to finish. It was shocking to me, I have read only 1 book this month. Gawd! This news was far worse than the story of the novel.
There were a lot of characters, a-lot, so keeping track of them was seriously confusing in the beginning. Then came the secrets, so convoluted are they that I got confused about who, what, and why. And then there were the affairs, some ongoing since many years with the characters being married to others, and there was a budding discovery of a secret leading to affair while having a pregnant girlfriend, and there are parents who are actually the grandparents, and some past secrets, some children of those secrets. Have I confused you enough? Good! Now you know what I went through for 15 days!!
I didn’t enjoy the book as I was too busy trying to keep track of all the characters and their secrets and unbelievable reveals. Author Caroline England’s concept was good, shocking us with the dark side of humans, but the delivery failed with just too many characters, secrets, yet not enough of a plot or a story.
Twisted and turned were the humans in the story, yet called themselves the best of friends while cheating each other. My husband’s lies became everybody lies!!! Yet we don’t enjoy!! I didn’t.. Duhh 15 days 1 book!!
I received an ARC from NetGalley and publisher Avon Books UK, and this is my honest and unbiased opinion.
My rating : 2 stars

Some times twist can be hard to follow especially if there is a lot of characters involved.
The twists were incredulous about who sleeps with whom and how they go about it. I have no idea why I stuck with the book. Maybe I hoped….
The best part is ending is left open without anything clearly resolved so went about thinking the entire book has not been downloaded properly… Hahaha 😂😂
You probably just waiting on the Climax of the story. Just like a movie and then it ends and your looking at the screen ‘like’ did i just watch this?
Exactly…. Perfect. You have described this so perfectly
Thank you Shalini. And you’re right, the name and cover could make my wife pick the book up 😉
Hahaha… Don’t worry, I am sure you don’t lie😉
😉
Oops! 😹😹
I know the feeling. I currently am in such a situation
Hahaha what are you reading?
Not long ago I read one of Caroline England’s other books, Beneath The Skin, and I really didn’t like it. Just like you, I decided to read it based on the blurb 🙂 I just never connected with her writing style.
Hi Stephen, this one was equally the same. I never realized that the book has gotten over, I thought it had not got downloaded
I picked the book because of the cover and title. However, the reviews that I have been seeing have made me push it down my TBR probably until end of May. This sounds like quite a confusing read with way too many characters and secrets. Sorry it wasn’t a good read but thanks for the honest review.
Thank you Shalini! I had this on my tbr. Sometimes when a book has too many plot twists and characters it can turn into a convoluted mess!! I’m glad you warned me about this one. I chuckled reading your review. You’re so funny. 😂
Hahaha thank you… Worst is when I came to the ending, I thought the book was not downloaded fully as my kindle was acting up
That’s happened to me too!! I keep going back, clicking on page numbers and attempting to scroll forwards when my kindle won’t budge; trying to see if I got a defective ARC!! 😂😂 Frustrating when a book ends with more questions than it begins with.
Oh you understand… It was just so funny, I didn’t Whether to laugh or cry. I thought I was a doofus when I realized that was the ending. I don’t even know which characters were alive at the end😱😱 nothing was clear. And the author’s friends called her brilliant on Facebook. I was like whaaaat, what did I just read then? I thought NetGalley gave me the wrong book
😂😂 at “I don’t even know which characters were alive at the end😱😱.”
I know just how you feel. My reaction too has been, What just happened here? 😂
The last line was something like I did not allow the spoon to run away from the plate
🤦🏽♀️
😂
So I deleted and re-downloaded and realized that was the ending which was a non ending. 😱 Horrifying and embarrassing… Spoiler alert stop reading if you don’t want to know
Sleeping with someone else on the marital bed when the husband is away is too icky…
Epic icky.
I am glad you agree… There are a lot of epic and epic ickiness with paedophilia too…. Eeuuuu I couldn’t even put that in the review😫😫
😳
Yea and nobody says anything, couple of the characters were abused and they suppressed it… No comments to such a fiction. One angry word, one angry conversation, one telling off the abuser – nopes, nothing.
15 days one book unheard off. I look at myself and say – you dumb fool
I’ve trudged through books too Shalini. At least you gave it a fair shot.
Hahaha true
15 days to read a book not so good
I know!!!!
Reblogged this on Die Erste Eslarner Zeitung – Aus und über Eslarn, sowie die bayerisch-tschechische Region!.
Thank you Michael
Ouch! But you stated your dislike with such aplomb 😉
Hahaha… Thank you so much. If you read the comments you will know more details 😉😂
Loved the word aplomb
Haha. Glad you approve 😉
Oh yes my darling cozy babe, I do approve of your usage of words with aplomb
Hahahahahahaha! Good one! The book might have worked better as a TV show. 1 book this month, GOD do I not wanna know how much that delayed your reading schedule!
Everything totally, it put me in a slump… 😫😫😥😥😥
You should’ve dnf-ed, babeeee 😂
Hahaha… They told me there is secrets but they didn’t tell me it would be sex and more sex and illicit sex
*facepalm* poor you!
Hahaha onto another book when mood improves
what’s next on your list?
Nothing for today… I am slumped
Lol, I meant on your list for when you’re back up😄 What do you do in between slumps? To pick the mood up?
I go to work hahaha or I read a cozy book. At this moment I am just being horizonatal
xD Hahahahahaha LOLLLLL
Hahahaha😂😂
Thank you for an honest review. Reading about marriage problems and affairs is my favourite fiction subject . But I don’t like too many characters to the point of being confused. Maybe I will skip this marriage crisis.
Mine too. Hence I requested this book. Took me 15 days… Sighhh… Didn’t want a DNF in 2018. Next year I am going to DNF all which don’t pull me in!!
